Are you sure?

I try to say the same ... never works.

Almost all my E mount lenses were bought in 2020. I added the Batis 135mm in 2021 (during Auckland’s long Covid lockdown). I added the 18-105 this year when I got more into video after the Fx-30 purchase.
The long telephoto has gone from the Sigma 100-400 to Tamron 150-500 to Sony 100-400 with TC. The problem there was just figuring out which long telephoto suited me the best. I think that’s now sorted.

So it really has been a pretty stable lineup since I made the shift to the E-mount.

Why did you move from the Tamron 150-500 to the Sony 100-400 GM?

Looking at your signature you still need a wide zoom, not trying to give you GAS, just an objective observation

I closed a sale for $458,000 in July and $207,000 in August. I'm suffering the worst case of GAS i've had in years

First it was an A7 IV, then a Sigma 35/2 for an upcoming work trip, and at the end of September I'm getting the 4/20-70G and the 4/70-200G so the wife can inherit the CZ 24-70 and 70-300G that she's got on loan from the gear bank

I spent a lot of time in 2021-22 selling film cameras and accessories from my way too large collection. I banked the profits to cover most of my purchases over the last year. My GAS is pretty much satisfied at the moment. While I try to concentrate on buying used, there were a few new items on this list.

October '22. Sony a7IV(new). Took advantage of trade-in bonus to add this body.
December '22. Tamron 2.8/28-75 G2(used) Got a great deal on a used but mint copy for about half the price of new.
Early '23. Sony 1.8/11mm (new) First time I've every pre-ordered a new lens, but worth the full retail price. Heavy usage.
June '23. Gitzo Traveler GT1545T legs (used) Needed a light-weight traveler, got a great deal on a mint copy.
April '23 Sony 1.8/20 G (used) Good used price, mint condition. Bought primarily for astro and landscapes.
July 23. Sony 4/70-200 G OSS. (used) Mint-as new, half the price of recently introduced M2 version. Very pleased with this.
August '23. Voightlander 1.2/40mm SE. (used) My most recent GAS attack. Mint-as new, saved almost $300 of retail.

I mostly buy from two sources: B&H, UsedPhotoPro.com (Roberts Photo Indianapolis IN), and occasionally KEH. All three have trustworthy rating systems, good return policies, generally good used prices, and with Roberts and KEH, 180-day warranties.
I often check eBay to see what items have sold for, I only occasionaly buy there anymore.

GAS, mmmmm. Dangerous for a hobby photographer.

Yes, after the transition from A-mount to E-mount about 5,5years ago I have suffered from lots of those attacks of GAS. Selling A-stuff and buying E-stuff. At the moment my collection of lenses ranges almost seamless from 12mm to 400 with both primes (14/18/28/35/50/85/90/135mm) and zooms (12-24/16-35/28-75/70-300/100-400mm), with an additional A7iv and A7iii .

GAS can occur when some of the primes come available in a faster version for a reasonable price on the second hand market.

So far GAS is rather under control, I hope .
Harm, with A7iv+A7iii plus 12-400mm glass.

The Sony 100-400 GM is smaller and lighter than the Tamron (so easier for hiking with). It can also exploit the frame rate of the ɑ1 (i.e. I can shoot at 20-30 fps if needed). The Tamron is throttled back at 15 fps.
Also because I'm now shooting with the ɑ1 and not the ɑ9, having the extra 100mm at the long end isn't as critical for bird photography because I can crop more.
And with the 1.4x TC I do have more reach than the Tamron, albeit at the cost of shooting at f8.

I don't really feel the need for a wide zoom . I feel I have got the wide end covered with the 15mm, 21mm and 35mm prime lenses. The only niggle is I only have 1 APS-C lens (to go with the FX-30). There may be a need in the future for the Sony 10-20mm or 70-350mm. I'm not really feeling it however

@2manycamera - it looks like 2023 is your year for splurging on new lenses.
I agree it's a good plan to get get good used items when you can. Or wait at least, until the new items are on sale or have a similar discount.

It's had not to have GAS:

I just found a Minolta MAXXUM 5 for $3 and a Tokina 24-200mm a-mount for $40.

Both in PERFECT shape.

Oh my! That’s quite the week of spending.

I mean they are nice lenses but that is quite the weekly spend. Has it sated your GAS for this month?

I quite liked the Maxxum 5. Not as advanced as the 7, but a very capable film camera. Enjoy 😊
