My attempts at restraint this year have hit a really bad month.
In the last month I've managed to buy a (newish) Sony a1 and 100-400 GM, a used 1.4 TC, a new (but discounted) HVL-F60RM flash, a (new) 3 Legged Thing AirHed Cine Video Head and a used (but never used) Gitzo Safari Tripod with matching Safari ballhead. I guess I won't be spending any more money this year... |

Congrats on some stellar 'new' gear.
As for your final statement, it sounds like an expression of hope over experience. |

I think I'm ok on the lenses. Most of my lens purchases of late, have really been about rejigging my long telephoto rather than net increases.
I also decided this year I was over shooting events with the HVL-F58AM and a hot shoe adapter. The older vrsion of the HVL-F60 was heavily discounted here as they tried to move the old stock. The Gitzo was unanticipated, but if you can get effectively a brand new carbon-fibr Gitzo tripod with head for $NZ500 (=US300), then I challenge any serious photographer to resist But we shall have to see about new purchases. I'm about to invoice a client an almost $10k job...let's hope that there is not any new temptation Edited by Wētāpunga - 30 August 2023 at 04:54 |

That's a good job you've got there. It will inevitably lead to some temptation ;)
I don't earn my living with photography, so such GAS episodes are not likely. But now I am in the process of replacing gear, so I know I will be buying something soon. |

Yes, I do get bouts of GAS now and then, although since I already have three nice ILCs, nice and fairly extensive collection of optics and accessories, RX10 IV and perhaps few bits and pieces I forget, there is probably no gear I would absolutely need. Also, the few items I would be interested in, are darn expesive (think eg. supertelephoto primes) and I haven't yet won the top prize in Eurojackpot lottery. Another question would be also that if I get anything new and it is not direct replacement of something I already have, there is also the question how I am supposed to haul around all this stuff?!? Already I often have to make difficult choices on which gear I take since there is no bag that would hold everything. And I already do own number of camera bags.

Episodes of high GAS? No, never!
Picked up a Leica M3 the other week... I try to resist but sometimes a deal is to good to let it pass. |

Well, you have a good excuse. You are transitioning to the E-mount 🙂 Some of us who have made the shift have less excuse 😏 |

Ah yes, I recall your lens collection and the cameras you own. That could only have happened with some serious GAS. Although it looks like you could be in for a quiet period of buying now you have the a7RV and all the lenses you could possibly use. I like that your impulses to buy make me feel somewhat normal 🙂🙂 |

😂 You are an example of restraint Addy. Albeit a Leica M3 sounds very tempting if you can get a good deal on it. I think I may be safe from GAS for a while after this surge… |

You're just saying that to try and convince yourself; you do realise that, don't you? I've resisted the temptation for many years now; I'm not over it, just have it under tight control. I think. Take care and best regards, neil. |

Thanks Neil.
I'm kind of hoping I'm now at the point where I don't really need anything else, in terms of camera, lenses or other accessories... Just also wondering who else has these bouts of purchasing a lot of stuff in a short period |

I feel pretty settled right now, having jumped into e-mount with the purchase of the SEL200-600mm OSS G via a Sony cash back offer, then an a7iv camera to drive it with, a SEL24-70GM mark 1 via another cash back incentive and finally an as new SEL70-200mm f2.8 GM OSSii from one of our local Sony ambassadors.
All my other lenses are high quality a-mount and with the LA-EA5 they are fully functional on the a7iv, and of course native fit on my a99ii. Covers all my bases as an amateur. When I see some of the best and latest releases in e-mount lenses with their eye watering prices, I'm even more comfortable sticking with what I now have. I guess pro photographers are able to tax deduct capital purchases, amortise their depreciation, and so on. Edited by Jozioau - 31 August 2023 at 09:28 |

But yeah, these new lenses still are expensive even if they are relatively cheaper then their '90s counterparts... |
