Jump a few days forward and we made it to Durango. The wedding was later in the day, so we had a chance to walk around the city for a few hours. The rain has yet to come - a sunny morning, a chance to take a look at one of the many reasons to visit this Colorado town - the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railway.

Really like the B&W pictures. The colour ones are fine, but I really, really like the B&W ones. I feel the B&W conversion fits the pictures well! TFS.

Thanks Andy. I had this crazy idea that some of the scenes were rather timeless - steam train on the track, the conductor waving the last people in, etc. Once it passed the McDonald's, we know that we are in the modern era. Thus the switch from black and white to color.

I agree with Addy. B&W fit much better with the timeless atmosphere.
Actually, without the text of McDonalds (the farm?) every picture could have been in B&W. TFS. |

If you look at the first color picture, by the headlamp, you see traces of a yellow arch. It's part of the McDonald's logo.

Great series, lovely train, Winston.
And, actually, the color photos only stress the blue overall of the engineer. #2 (the real thing, timeless shot) #4 (good to see the steam) and #9 (the engineer) are my picks. And the wedding was fun too? |

I know, but as I said, I had this crazy idea. Besides, I got more pictures and a short, unsteady video of the locomotive moving. I wish we could have taken the train to Silverton, but there was a wedding to attend. Did the next best thing though. The next day, we drove to Silverton and had some barbequed ribs and pulled pork. Definitely NOT Keto diet approved.

Wonderful set of images, Winston!
These bring back fond memories of our visit to Durango a few years ago! Its a beautiful setting for a steam railroad and you have captured the flavor nicely. Thank you very much for sharing! I like that you have included the various crewmen with the trains. Nicely done. What gear did you use to capture these photographs? Regards, Kelly |

BTW there are videos on YouTube of the train ride up to Silverton. Tickets are quite expensive.

Thanks Kelly. It was a hectic day and the train was a welcome change of pace before the wedding took place. I used my A7IV with the 24-105 zoom.
