I have a strange problem with my 600si. The battery low always flashes on the LCD and the camera does not react to anything. I have tested the battery in another camera and it still has power in it. A multimeter shows something over 6 volts in it.
Is there a way to fix this?

Have you checked the contacts are clean in the battery chamber ?
Have you tried it with a fresh battery ?
If you have the vertical grip , have you tried it with fresh alkaline batteries ?
( Disposable , not rechargeable , as they are a lower voltage )

What Neil said. Most likely it is the contacts if the battery is fine.
Also, it could be that the other camera you used is less fussy about the battery. 6v is one number, another is capacity (mAh).

And welcome to Dyxum

You won't believe it! I have tried with a third new battery and it works perfectly! After so many years with photography it is the first time that I got two bad new batteries in a row.

And of course thank you for welcoming me! :)

Great you've got it sorted now .

What were the dates on the other batteries you bought ?
And we're they well regarded batteries rather than "own brand " or no name generic ones ?

They were Toshiba batteries with a date in 2022. The last one is a Varta.

I live in Athens and I bought my 600si in a local flea market in an attempt of mine to get back to photography and film. For a year or so I haven't developed even a roll of film.

Mine always tend to be the Varta ones and I've never had a problem .
Not sure why it shouldn't like the Toshiba ones , must be something about them that's not letting sufficient current through .

Stick with Varta in future .

There are worse places to live then Athens. If you can share some pictures After you developed your films of course.

The last couple of years I worked in Greece (on Lesvos and Samos) for a couple of months each year. That is why I asked.

It could be the shop I bough them. The first one was on I had unused for years. The digital multimeter still shown 6V though. It might be something more than this that at list my Minolta didn't like.
The second was from a shop with a lot of sunshine on its corner with the batteries. I guess it could be the heat, or just my bad luck.

Athens is a bit of a mess. I like it though. I have lived for a year at Beloeil near Quebec. Beautiful place, but I missed the perhaps false sense of freedom a city like Athens and its people give. I guess it must be the way of living I got used to.

Well, it is the capital Greece after all

I like unorganised Greece, but at the same time it also can be frustrating at times. I just went home to over organised Netherlands after two or three months.

We have a dedicated Athens thread - not that many pictures though. We do not have a dedicated thread for Beloeil, but we do for Quebec.

Wonderful photos of yours! I love them. Finally I have managed to go out with the 600si and a roll of a long gone Kodak Plus-X (anyone remember it?).
I had to rub with alcohol the grip as it was sticky (just like years ago with the back of my Nikon F100) and spending some time to get to know the controls of the camera (neat trick that one for the toggle of the AE lock).
First impressions? It is an o.k. camera. It feels quite plastic and in contrast to that a bit heavy. I felt sort of embarrassed with the first shot as the mirror slap noise gave me away to the people in front of my lens. :) Thankfully a smile was enough to get away with it. I have been away from photography for quite a while and I have lost some of the gut that street photography asks for.
It will not be my main walk around camera, but what the heck. It is a great excuse to go for a Dynax 7 or even 9. :)

Thank you

If you compare it to a Nikon F100, yeah, it will be an okay camera. The 7 is the Minolta equivalent to the F100 I would think.
A smile or the thumbs up go a long way on the street. Most people do not mind you take a picture if you're a nice guy. The nice thing about film is that you cannot delete the picture

I can't imagine why you feel need to have an excuse to buy a Dynax 7 !
It's a great camera , just get one , you need one , just "because" !
I've a few of them .
I've got a 9 as well , but I do prefer the 7's , also if any of your lenses are SSM , SAM etc with the built in motors , they work fine on the d7 but only upgraded d9's .
