Due to a close cooperation of many people - photographers as well as people from Sony, Konica-Minolta and Runtime Germany - the Dynax 9 SSM upgrade is available again!
Announcement from Runtime on www.mi-fo.de Basicly Konica-Minolta has delivered the last 200 "Main ICs" capable of SSM, and Sony is delivering the necessary electronic parts (from their stock of replacement parts for the Dynax 9TI). Runtime Germany is assembling the parts and and modifying the Dynax 9's. I was involved a tiny little bit in the discussions/negotiations, and I know that the issue finally went to the "highest level" at Sony DSLR responsibles in Japan. I am very happy that it was possible to find such a solution. In the future, the contacts established here may prove to be helpful for improving the entire Sony DSLR system. Not a 9 owner myself, but congratulations to everyone who has made this possible.
I have made this a 'sticky' to maintain it's visibility to fellow Dyxum members, as once these 200 chips have gone - I guess that's it! |

Thats excellent news, and awesome work by all involved to persuade Sony to support this.
Now I just need to figure out how to get my 9 to Runtime in Germany. |

Hi Nik, right now, we try to figure out, how we can make the shipping to Germany less expensive and more comfortable for you guys living overseas. I think and hope, this will be the easier part of the story, now we reached our main goal. Be patient again, please! Greetings, Rolf |

I might buy a Minolta 9 as a backup to my a900. But what is this about?: "Basicly Konica-Minolta has delivered the last 200 "Main ICs" capable of SSM"
If I buy a Minolta9 without this upgrade (or watever it is), wil there be missing functions, reliability, or? |

It's all explained here and here. Note that there is no film-equivalent per se for the a900, and if you are not planning on buying an SSM lens, you won't need the mod. Edited by brettania - 29 April 2009 at 12:05 |

I just want to express my gratitude to all persons that have made this upgrade possible again and for all your help to other dynax 9 owners having their cameras upgraded.
I know that's a lot of work "under the hood" and i'm amazed on how great job you have done. Thank you !! Now, for all dyxum members, please spread the word about it; i'm sure there are many dynax 9 owners that would find this opportunity very useful ! p.s. I made this topic as an announcement in all (sub) forum ! Edited by Kiklop - 29 April 2009 at 13:24 |

They refused to do the upgrades for USA Maxxum 9 owners in the past. They would only do them for Dynax 9 owners living in Germany. Does the same attitude still apply? I gave up and sold both my Maxxum 9s, one still brand new in the box.
EDIT: I sold them both in 2007. I think I sold the vertical grips separately. The New-In-Box 9 was sold for about $840USD and the other 9 about $675USD. Both went to Europe. If it is very important I could dig the exact information from my scattered archives Edited by Shercando - 29 April 2009 at 16:08 |
