Shercando:

Hi Nik,

right now, we try to figure out, how we can make the shipping to Germany less expensive and more comfortable for you guys living overseas. I think and hope, this will be the easier part of the story, now we reached our main goal.
Be patient again, please!

Greetings,
Rolf

How long do you reckon those 200 boards will last? And what's a good price for a 9? I'm eying one up, but I'm not sure whether to do it or not...

I would say a good price for a 9 is hard to estimate those days as there haven't been many sales lately, some ended quite low, others rather high, some didn't go despite decent prices ... it might go up when the SSM news spreads ...
About a year ago, I paid 430 € for mine, including the VC-9, almost as new, complete with strap, all caps, manual and box.

Question....

How to get the upgrades?

Do we simply send in our cameras? if so Where? How much would it cost? etc. etc.

Dear posters, I would be eternally grateful if any of you could direct me to the information on how to get the upgrades.

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance.

As i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i shall fear no evil. For i have scores of emergency procedure checklists, a 1:10 glide ratio, & a 4.4G load limit. So bring it on Reaper!!

Congratulations and thanks to Rolf and everyone who made this happen. Runtime does great work. I had my Maxxum 9 upgraded last year and it works perfectly with the SSM lenses. I'll have my backup 9 upgraded now. Much appreciated!

Dear all,

Given how this whole thing started as a little forum discussion I'm still impressed myself, how this became an international "movement" of some sort... ;-)

This whole project would not have been possible without the encouragement, enthusiasm and commitment of a whole lot of people all over the world, photographers signing the petition in forums, teamers discussing and coordinating plans, experts researching options and giving advices, and employees at Sony and Konica Minolta - and Runtime - on all levels sorting out issues and making decisions.
People, who passionately love and strive for photography, people, who, if things make sense, roll-up their sleeves and don't dither, people, who are willing to spend their energy, share their precious time and to even throw money at it to make great things happen. What a statement of dedication to A-mount. What an achievement.

My sincere thanks go to all involved in making this project a success. You know who you are. Thank you. :-)

Matthias

PS. And some fine day, we'll meet and drink some beers together. ;-)

Will the upgrade be available to USA Maxxum 9 Owners? --Or do they have to go underground again and find lost relatives or help from willing members in Germany?

I have just realised that Runtime Germany is located in my city. If I can be of any help I will try to assist, just let me know.

Here is a little more translation of the, what I think are the important parts, announcement from the mi-fo.de forum

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

The Text is posted by Mr. Daniel Wendt-Fröhlich of Runtime Contract in Bremen, Germany, where he is working at the upper-segment SLRs department.

He explains the inavailability of the hardware for ADI and SSM that has lasted for some time now. It is possible for them to manufacture the needed electronics from the parts of the Dynax 9Ti and its SSM/ADI-compatiblen main processor ("SSM-IC"). That IC was missing in the last time he explains.

Request at Sony for that IC did not have success...

At the www.mi-fo.de Forum a petition to restart the upgrades was initialised, that was supported by many Dynax 9 users, and by users from Dyxum.com, Sonyuserforum.de and alphadxd.fr

Mr. Wendt-Fröhlich thanks the community for the petition in dthe name of his company Runtime Contract, especially Matthias Paul, who initiated/started the petition, as well as Rolf Voss (mi-fo.de, Dyxum.com) and "Slipsale" (alphadxd.fr), who were main drivers to spread the petition.

Mr. Rolf Voss is honoured a little more for his help with non German users, more can be read here: http://www.dyxum.com/columns/other/maxxu%6D9/index.asp

A special thanks goes to Jed Smith.

Mr. Wendt-Fröhlich tells "to be honest, I did not believe in the success of the petition", but after the Service Manager of their company has had some talks with Sony, Sony changed its mind.

... Yesterday, he continues , he got via mail from KonicaMinolta the remaining 200 SSM-ICs!
Sony confirmed that there were enough parts (main electronics) of the D9Ti available too.

Finally the upgrades are possible again!

The adress of the company is: Runtime Contract GmbH, Hohweg 5, 28219 Bremen.

Dynax 9-Users from other EU countries can contact their local/national Service-Center. A list is given here

These Service Centers send their cameras to Runtime from time ti time, so there is no problem for the end-user.

There is no solution available for users from non-EU countries, right now. In principle they should contact their local Sony/KonicaMinolta-Service. Maybe they can send the camera to Runtime.
Cameras send from those countries cannot be accepted directly by Runtime without a consultation beforehand.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

So it seems that Rolf has some experience, and he already told to contact the company in the Netherlands.

always on the need for improvement

As the last recipient of the Original ADI/SSM update done by Runtime last year, I would like to extend a very special thanks to Mr. Rolf Voss, Mr. Matthias Paul, Mr. Slipsale, Mr. Jed Smith, Mr. Wendt, Runtime, members of the K/M and Sony Community, and anyone I left out.

As a collector of Konica Minolta, no words of mine can express the gratitude for the efforts put forward for current 9 owners to have there cameras updated. This is certainly an accomplishment I never thought possible.

Minolta: Only From The Mind Of Minolta
Sony: Like No Other

Well done my fellow photographers, well done!
We can only keep what we have buy giving it away.

Let me add my congratulations to those who are responsible for this success. Well done!

Now, how about us US Maxxum 9 owners? One possibility may be an effort to get Sony USA to make arrangements to participate in this effort. Personally, I will send an e-mail to a Sony rep I know (and hope to see on Sunday) to let him know about this situation and to ask him to contact Sony higher-ups here about such a possibility for US owners. Others who have similar contacts may want to try to do the same.

I am dubious that Sony here (in the US) will be as cooperative as what allowed those across the pond to accomplish this success, but perhaps I'll be surprised. I have two Maxxum 9 bodies, one already upgraded, the other not. I guess my other alternative would be to sell the non-upgraded body to someone interested in Europe who could then get the upgrade done.

Last night, after posting my comments above, I sent an e-mail about this situation to the Sony rep I know. I suggest that folks in the US interested in this possibility try to contact Sony as well. The more it hears of this the greater the chances it might choose to try to help or do something.
