Very helpful thread. Bob J's summary at the beginning is a useful resource. Today I realized something that I haven't found mentioned yet - maybe it is apparent for everyone else, but it wasn't for me and has made me look at my cheap chine adapters quite differently:
The main difference between cheap Leica M to e-mount adapters and their novoflex/metabones/vigtlander counterparts is that the more expensive adapters contain springs to lock the lens in place. The main issue I had with cheap adapters was their wobbly lens hold, especially with heavier compacts like old 50 summicrons etc.
Until i read it elsewhere I never realized that I had been using the adapters wrong: They are MEANT to be loose fitting and can be adjusted by inserting a flat knife of screwdriver into the three slits where a spring is used in more expensive adapters. The slit can be seen in pegellis Picture.
I've tried it on both a standard m to e adapter as well as on a 39$ helicoid from chinab and it really locks m-mount lenses in place.
Maybe there are others that didn't realize what these slits were for - then it should be mentioned in Bob J's summary.

Quenox PK - E-mount adapter

This adapter allows the fitting of manual focus Pentax K-mount lenses on E-mount cameras. As the original K-mount (flange focal distance: 45.46 mm) is a simple bayonet connection with three tabs, there are no electrical connections. This adapter comes with a small tripod mount with 1/4" female thread .

The adapter itself is a black-anodized tube with a knurled ring and well machined; it fits well on both my E-mount bodies, NEX-5N and a7 that is, and fit for K-mount lenses is also good - no wobbling or play when locked in place.
Also the lens release button works fine in practice.

Only minor issue identified is that the black-anodized inner tube of this cheap adapter is rather reflective which under some circumstances can lead to loss of contrast or in case of strong light sources at bad angles (especially during long exposures) can cause ugly bright spots.

To improve the reflection issue of these generic adapters, I have done an easy and cheap mod by coating the inner side of all my cheap E-mount adapters with a light absorbing self-adhesive foil. Now possible light reflections are much better absorbed and thus under control.

My Dad gave me a few old manual Nikon lenses, I believe they are those non-ai lenses. And of course I am planning to get an adapter to use them on my NEX-5N, is the lens mount the same as those Nikon Ai, G and AF-S lenses ?

So I can just purchase basically any Nikon->NEX adapter ? I am thinking about getting the FOTGA which is US$10 on ebay.

I think that should work fine - the basic Nikon Bayonet has stayed the same since the late 50s.

Thanks for that tip. I just did this to one of my adapters today. Took a few shots with the modified one, and with one without ... didn't notice any difference in the environment I had available. Will try a few more tests outside in some different conditions when I get an opportunity.

I currently use the Voigtlander Close focus(Had it for a week) M-mount adapter on one NEX6 and a Novoflex(bought it before the Voigtlander was introduced) M-mount adapter on the other.

Both adapters are really well made(The voigtlander has some heft to it) and the difference in price is $71.30(in the US). If I didn't have the Novoflex I would most certainly have another Voigtlander adapter. The close focus adapter is extremely versatile(the VC15 f/4,5 gave almost macro-like images). Yet, I have some reservations about adapters with moving parts, which is why I am happy having the Novoflex.

Long story short, you can't go wrong with either one.

I buy my adapters here in the states from RainbowImaging, which ships from NYC. I've had no issues with their adapters. I was just looking for the correct adapter to allow a friend to use Canon DSLR (APS-C) lenses on A6000 and came across this disclaimer:
"Canon EOS Lens to Sony E-Mount Sony A7II A7S Adapter. Pls note: This adapter fits Sony A7II A7S cameras only. Not for other Sony E-Mount Cameras

I am not aware of differences in E-mounts. Can someone please inform me?
Regards,

woodrim

That's a really weird disclaimer.

The only thing I can think of is that it's about clearance around the mount, rather than the mount itself.

In the same way that some really fat lenses won't fit on a camera with a protruding built-in flash.

But it still seems weird.

Thanks. I don't know Canon at all and don't have any Canon lenses, but I have read that they have changed their mount several times. What is the correct adapter for Canon DSLR APS-C auto lenses to A6000? I see AOS, FD, FD-s... Would this work? EOS to E-mount
Or this one? FD to E-mount

Do the Canon kit lenses have external aperture rings? If not, I suppose this is the adapter needed?: EOS to E-mount with aperture
Regards,

woodrim

FD is the manual mount, you don't want that. (likewise with FL or R)

APS-C lenses are technically EF-S, but I believe they should work on any EF mount adapter.

Yes, you'll need one with aperture control, *or* an autofocus adapter. Some of the Chinese (etc) ones are only about $60 these days, so you might consider going that route -- it will let you control the lens from the camera body, instead of some odd on-adapter controls.

I got a Jupiter 11 in, what seems to be, a Contax/Kiev mount...

I'm looking for a way to adapt it to the A7II...so some say that the Nikon S Rangefinder mount is the same as Contax/Kiev. Is that true?
