Yes, but be sure that is your mount.

I guess it is, at least that's what people told me

It looks exactly like this one

I guess this adapter should do the trick?

Will the MD - NEX adaptor from first page work on FF a7RII camera?

Why I ask is that the Potodoix has one Minolta MD-E that them self says is not for FF and points to the Potodoix Pro version?

I've got several of the cheap MD-NEX adapters and they all work fine with full frame (A7RII). Some have a little chrome on the back of the inside front mount that needs blackening, but other than that, no problems. Is there a particular MD lens you want me to try out with the A7RII?

Pete

Hi Pete,

Nae, I just looking for what one to buy, mostly to test my non special Minolta MD lenses I once bought to do reverse macro with.
Would be nice to know if any of them could actually work ok on the a7RII.

These I own:
Minolta MD
50/1.4
35/1.8
28/2.8
20/2.8

Cheers.

Edit: I meant optically ofc...

Ahoy!

Whilst I was doing some research, I came across what I think is very useful information about the differences between the lens adapter models and also a compatibility chart both on the Sony website, so you can see what lenses work on which camera mount and what lenses can be used with which lens mount adapter:

To my knowledge, any of the MD to E-Mount adapters will work for manual focus and aperture. Here in the states, I use Rainbowimaging. They are also in ebar along with many other Chinese made adapter suppliers.

I received an LA-EA1 today (Firmware Version 02) and did some testing with my A5000 which only has contrast-detect AF.

Contrary to the above, AF works better with the newer DT 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 SAM than the DT 16-50mm F2.8 SSM.

AF performance with the Kenko DGX teleconverters is worse than the A65, but I did get the A5000 to lock once at a maximum aperture of f/16, which I can't say of the A65. In general though the A65 focuses and locks much faster at any effective maximum aperture even f/13.

Unlike A mount bodies, the A5000 + LA-EA1 leaves lenses wherever they already happen to be focused when the camera is powered on and off. This is a little annoying with the extending focus SAM lenses as they must be switched to MF and then manually retracted for storage.

Lenses often go through a whole sweep from MFD to infinity with each AF initiation. This seems to happen nearly every time on the DT 16-50mm F2.8 SSM.

Addendum (11/16/2017): The Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 II APO EX DC HSM won't lock focus at all with the LA-EA1 on the A5000. I haven't tried other HSM lenses yet. The Tamron 70-300 USD and 60mm F2 focus comparatively well.

I bought a clean, used NEX 7 a few years ago, and the very first thing I did once it arrived was to order six different adapters for it. I bought "FOTGA" adapters from an eBay seller.

One of the main reasons why I bought a NEX was so that I could mount my Canon FD lenses on a digital camera without having to use an adapter with a corrective glass element. Prior to buying the NEX, the only digital I had was a Canon DSLR, which can't infinity focus FD lenses without the use of an adapter with corrective element.

The adapters I bought were Canon FD, Nikon F, Pentax K, M42, M39, and C-mount. Since then, I've bought adapters for Minolta MC/MD and adapters for Canon FD and Nikon F that have the built-in tripod mount, a very nice feature.

I have used all of the above adapters on my NEX 7 with no problems at all. Each provides a snug fit between lens and adapter and adapter and NEX 7. To my knowledge, these adapters will work on any E-mount camera, whether APS-C or FF.

I have a fairly sizeable collection of manual focus lenses, mostly Canon, Nikon, and Tamron. I also own a few M42, Pentax K, Minolta MC and MD, and LTM (M39) lenses. Ironically, I suppose, the only native E-mount lens I own is the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera.

I saw recently that there is an M42 to E-mount adapter that doubles as a focusing helicoid. I bought mine from rainbowimaging.com but they are also available on ebay. I use rainbow because they ship stock from New York, making delivery time much shorter than the China deliveries. I use this adapter now with M42 lenses and find it very helpful when using lenses with longer MFD. My 3.5/135 Primotar, among others, is more useful now at shorter distances.

Hey, Woodrim! Good to see you here!

Very interesting. Is this type of adapter available in other mounts also? If it has a good amount of extension, it can be useful as an adjustable extension tube to, say, get your 1:2 macro lens down closer to 1:1.

Yes, there are macro focusing helicoid adapters in other mounts too. I know there are Minolta SR ones. The Techart Pro Leica M mount adapter is the ultimate one, since it will actually autofocus lenses. And Techart sells Leica M to most other mount adapters to use with the Techart Pro.

K&F Concept adapter, compared with unbranded ebay version

K&F

I first came across K&F concept at the 2018 Photography Show in Birmingham They offer some products that will look very familiar to anyone who shops for e-mount adapters on ebay, but the fit and finish of their products does seem to be quite good.

They offer up to three variants on each lens mount – one basic (£17.01), one ‘Copper’ (£19.23) and one with a tripod mount built in (also £19.23).

Their website (https://www.kentfaith.com/sone-nex-e-mount-adapter) offers prices in various currencies, so you should be able to get an up-to-date price for your region.

I tried to find out what the differences between the basic and copper models was and failed to get a reply – so I ended up getting one ‘Copper’ Minolta SR adapter (mis-described as usual as ‘MD-NEX’) and another standard quality one for Nikon AI (for lenses with an aperture ring – they also do a version for Nikon G lenses that had a ring to control the aperture on the adapter). I’ve not tried out the Nikon adapter yet (it is for a possible future purchase), so will not be reviewing quite yet, other than to compare the standard and ‘copper’ versions.

Standard quality is pretty good – the tube used for the adapters is of substantial thickness, the bayonet catch is of decent quality and size and there is not much to complain about in finish. For the standard version the e-bayonet is of black anodised aluminium and is a good fit for a metal a7 bayonet. The ‘Copper’ quality adapter is much the same, but rather than the bayonet being spun out of the same aluminium as the body of the adapter, the Copper has a separate metal bayonet screwed into the adapter body – (I’m presuming that this is of chromed brass). The push button on the SR adapter is nice and broad and weight is about 15-20 grammes more than my old MD-NEX adapter.

The SR bayonet on the front is only held on by three screws (similar to the old adapter), but the whole bayonet seems very secure.

As the Copper version is only just over £2 more than the basic one, you might like to go for that version if you are going to use the adapter a lot – but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the quality of the standard K&F version. The version with a tripod mount (where available) is the same price as the ‘Copper’, so I figure it is probably based on the normal quality adapter.

K&F Concept offer a 10% discount if you buy two adapters at once and offer a 30 day return. The adapters themselves turn up in quite neat little plastic boxes.

On the whole, if you want a reliable adapter of good quality K&F Concept adapters look to be a good bet.

The tube of my Neewer MD-NEX is ridiculously thick and heavy. I would like a much lighter adapter. It should be possible to make a very strong dumb adapter lighter than the EA-EA1.

My Neewer does have four screws on the MD mount. The factory making MD mount face plates evidently switched to three screw design some time ago. My Zhongyi Lens Turbo II came with a three screw mount face. Maybe it doesn't matter much, but four or more screws seems better. I am sure it matters more than the thickness of the tube.

I would also like to find an adapter with the proper backspacing or a backspacing adjustment. I am sure many of the MD zooms are designed to be fairly parfocal. A
proper flange-to-flange distance should be a basic quality check.
