Like most other reactions so far, I am happy to donate to keep this great forum in the air. In my erlay days I offered a donation which wasn't necessary at the time then, but I will make my contribution this weekend too.
I like the idea about collection via geograpichal regions. |

I still wish Dyxum could host the pictures that are posted in the forums. It is really annoying to find posts only a couple of weeks old lacking the submitted photographs and onlu getting an icon of some kind that. Like this one:
Posted: 2023 September 10 at 01:54 winter is coming [an icon] winter is coming II [an icon] Macro Mondays Theme: "Leaf" Sony ILCA-99M2 + Sony 50mm F2.8 Macro f/8.0 50.0 mm 1/125 100 As I donīt post any pics here anymore because of this issue and havenīt done so for a long time I canīt submit a screenshot. Sorry about that! |

Without Paypal, how can I donate? And what would be a reasonable donation?

There probably something wrong with Flickr, Lee has older posts that are fine. Hosting pictures is expensive and there are several free hosting sites. It might make posting easier for newbies but the regulars have there galleries set up. Anyway, have the same question as Harm. |

As far as I go, my Flickr posts are a compromise. I don't watermark my images for artistic reasons and Flickr only allows 1000 or less images in a "free" account. I only have a Flickr account to share here on Dyxum and my wife directs the odd potential client there to get an idea of my work. I cull regularly to stay in the 700-800 image range. The culling usually coincides with a long challenge, then a month or two later I will remove 90% or so of the challenge posts. For themed post I try to maintain the current page series but sometimes forget. People rarely venture below the top 3 pages of a search and I'm not interested in creating a perpetual permanent record photographically. For the Dutchies (or other Europeans who can make IBAN bank transfers) who want to donate but don't have PayPal.
If you trust me (and I'm sure you do ) I don't mind a Bank transfer to my account and then I'll pass the money on to Dyxum for you via my PayPal account and send you the proof I did. When you're interested just send me a PM to work out the exact details and account numbers. |

Why would my broken link or deleted image prevent you from posting? Edited by LAbernethy - 28 October 2023 at 04:44 |

Who said that it is your posting that has stopped me from posting pics here? I used Photobucket years ago but something happened and pics where missing or showing with a huge watermark over the entire picture. Thatīs when I stopped posting pictures.
Sometimes I look into old threads in e.g. Themed Views or other treads and find lots and lots of missing pictures. I doubt that is only temporary problems with the different hosting sites. I hold it for more than likely that those free hosting sites suddenly start to charge for their service and some users simply will not pay. In some cases the hosted pictures are then deleted and the linked pictures here on Dyxum are replaced with a boring icon. If the images had instead been uploaded directly to Dyxum I think this would work flawlessly. It would be very interesting to know how much it would cost for Dyxum to store our uploaded pictures posted in all threads. As I have said earlier I am a member in a club for motorhome owners here in Sweden. We have about 33000 registered users of our forum. Out of those 17000 are paying members with an annual fee of 7 GBP. Registered users are free of charge and can post up to 300 posts. Paying members can post unlimited amount and we store all submitted files like pdf and other documents as well as photographs. We have no other income than members annual fees and are totally free from any advertising what so ever. Notice that the fee has not changed since the start 17 years ago. I presume that uploading pictures to Dyxum probably is much larger than to the forum of a motorhome club. Question is how big the difference is and how much that would affect the cost. Bear in mind that the 7 GBP fee to the club could have been reduced by half. Instead we use the margin for sponsoring, club events etc. |

Unfortunately I don't think we are in a position to offer a hosting service. I was also bitten by photobucket and now pay a small fee (that I resent) to them to avoid the watermark. I also pay a subscription to smugmug.
I'm guessing there must be some free hosting services out there, but I'm a bit out of touch with them. |

I was mentioned, could have been the inference, but I stand corrected as "why would any broken link or deleted image keep you from posting?". Still a valid question. I do believe "what happened" was hosting sites offered "unlimited" on startup, later looked to monetize by bringing in limits and pay walls, links broken. We all have our own reasons for being here. |

I've always put my photos on Google photos and linked to them on Dyxum.
Working well so far. |

I've been trying to acknowledge donations via paypal or Dyxum PM where the donations have come in via Pieter, but I've just had one donation where paypal says I can't message and the email used doesn't match to an account here on Dyxum, so I'm guessing that this person has succeeded in maintaining their anonymity...
...Just wanted to assure that person that their contribution is much appreciated, despite my failure to send an individual acknowledgement. |
