is finally finished and I just got the PDF version. In the mail Gary mentioned that everybody that bought the first a77 had a free update to a77M2 if you e-mailed the reciept to him. I couldn't find mine but Gary was generous and gave me a copy anyway.

He also asked me to say Hi from him to the Dyxum community!

Very nice guy

I have been going through the book and it is a real help. Many of the features of the Mk2 are difficult to understand, but Mr. Friedman makes it very accessible. Sony should make this book available to every new owner!

Some people are offering to pay half price instead of free to compensate Gary for his time updating this version. Just a thought.

I was quite happy to pay full price but I am not an original A77 owner and never bought his original book so I can't say how similar they are. But he obviously put work into producing it so I was happy enough given the price. It's a very useful book and as @GlassEye pointed out, should replace that terrible excuse for a manual.

I did e-mail him as he described Dyxum as an A-mount only forum. He sent a nice reply back saying he would update for version 1.01....

I have just purchased the A77ii, and was fortunate enough to grab one when they were offering the $300 discount.

Where do you find Gary's book? Also, has anyone purchased the Gary Fong video entitled "Unleashing the power of your Sony a77ii." The price is $12.95. Is is a valuable video, and would anyone recommend one over the other?

There's always a wealth of knowledge here on Dyxum. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's the link to Gary's books

http://www.friedmanarchives.com/ebooks/index.htm

Can't comment on the video as I haven't seen it but people say good things about and didn't mind paying for it

I have 3 of Gary's other books and have never regretted buying them. He explains the features and gives real-world examples of where you would use them. As others have said before, these are the manuals that SHOULD come with the camera. I just need to decide if I go for a printed version or the PDF. I still like holding a book and marking the pages.

Just had a look at the page where the colour printed version is sold from lulu.com and the price is stated as £118.16. Surely this is a massive error. Maybe someone who knows Gary could mention this to him so it can be sorted.

Nothing to be sorted out, that's how much the printed versions are. The price you're seeing probably includes S&H, I click on the lulu link and see a price of $110 which is about what they've always gone for.

Thanks stiuskr.
I'm quite new here (and learning a lot from the forums, thanks everyone) and haven't seen these books before so I must admit, when I saw that the B&W version is £31.34, I was a bit gobsmacked at the colour version price but if that's what it cost then so be it. At least there is a price for all pockets from the download version to the printed ones.
Thanks again.

Since they are printed on demand, the run is quite limited. Plus, it's a rather large book at 600 pages. At 18 cents a page, it's actually not that bad. For the price of a cheap lens (or a couple of filters), you will get the best instruction guide you will ever have for that camera. I have never regretted buying his books.

Thank you Basil. I understand a little more now. I hadn't realized that the print was in small runs and only on demand, and at 600 pages and in full colour, the price for that version is more understandable.
Your high recommendation for Gary's books is noted and the website is now in my browser faves.
Thanks again.

Just received Gary Friedmans' a77 mk2 ebook yesterday
another masterpiece from gary
I gave already changed my camera settings to garys recommendations as i have found as with the a700 and the original a77 they make a good starting point with a new camera.
Their seems to be a lot of changes in this book from the a77 to be giving the upgrade for free so i can recommend some of garys other ebooks ,(25 ways to wow )
etc, to help keep this valuable resource going.

Having subscribed to Gary Fong's on-line tutorial 'Unleashing the power of your a77ii" the pay to view full version of this short introduction clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YGA6TsY5V4, I wondered whether it was worth my while buying Gary Friedman's e-book version of his a77ii Guide.
In the end, for a modest US$26.45, I felt it was worth it, and it certainly is.
I downloaded the 600 page full colour .pdf file to my iBooks and it's now sitting on my computer, iPad and iPhone and I can dip into it as and when needed.
Gary Fong's video tutorial is a very handy start in that it shows you on screen what various settings can do and recommends the ones he likes. Gary Freedman's book is a very much more detailed yet accessible and user-friendly reference covering every aspect of the menus, settings and controls, and all the effects they can achieve.
I'd recommend it to anyone with an a77ii.
