Jozioau,
If you had the Gary Friedman book first, would you still pay for thew Gary Fong video? BTW ... has anyone else noticed that the accepted A77ii experts are both named Gary? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The book is much more comprehensive, 600 pages of technical analysis, diagrams, sample photos and instruction versus a bit over an hour of video demonstration. The Gary Fong full tutorial costs US$12.95 for one month's access to all his pro tutorials, and there are others there that are very helpful including artificial lighting and off-camera wireless flash. Here's the link to it http://www.garyfong.com/videos/unleashing-power-your-sony-a77ii. If you are more visual, it is certainly helpful to actually see how the various controls and settings are used, and watch the effects on screen in front of you while you have the camera in your hands. Access expires after a month, but can of course be renewed. The book is a permanent reference and you can dip into any particular aspect of the camera's settings, functions and controls as needed without any time limit. I think of the Gary Friedman book had come out immediately the camera did, I probably wouldn't have subscribed to the Gary Fong video, but because it was't available until now, the video was most helpful. They're both valuable references and highly recommended for anyone who wants to get a handle on all their a77ii is capable of, and how to optimise it to your needs. The little booklet that comes with the camera is basic in the extreme. |

Another great book from Gary! I own several of them already including ones for A57, A77, A900 and A6000. I also bought his smaller publications on "making your pictures stand out". I got an email about free upgrade to A77II book but I couldn't locate receipt for original A77 book. To be honest, even if I did, I'd still pay full price for the new one because I feel that Gary deserves it for all the hard work he puts into these books and support for Sony community.

Super boek, I also got more boeks from Gary together with the 77 version.
They are all special but this one is something, it really makes the rather complecated 77II understandable. It is for sure more than worth the price. I also thing you can not go for thr refund even it is offered. Dieter |

If you have the A77Mk2 (or any camera covered by Gary for that matter) you simply must buy the most definitive guide it is possible to obtain, I have his books for A300 A580 and A77 and would not be without them, they have taught me so much, Gary Fongs videos are extremely good also, between the two of them there is not much you will not know about your camera and technique, I have no connection with either gentleman other than as a very satisfied customer.

Has this book been updated since this thread was opened? I'm using version 1.02 at the moment, which predates the latest firmware (ILCA-77m2 v 2.0) and thereby isn't complete (it lacks any explanation of the XAVCS features).
Also, I noticed several typos, and a couple of conceptual errors that I'd like to point out to Mr. Friedman. Does anyone know a good way to reach him? |

The e-book update precedes the firmware update so it won't be covered. If you scroll down to the bottom of his home page you'll see a link for Contact info, or you can send him a PM here.
