I suppose going for a 'header' with a high ball can result in quite a blow to the head and I can understand a grimace at the moment of contact. Here however my grandson [in orange] and opponent are both going for the ball and both missed but you'd never know from their facial expressions!!!
Incidentally it was the final match of the season and my grandson's team won the premiership so he had a great weekend....

Great action shot Peter. I like the look of astonishment on the faces of the other players too. Well captured!
C & C always welcome

Thanks James, I always enjoy taking my camera to his matches particularly when it's a really tough game but I actually seem to be using it less, there's a limit to the size of my soccer folder....

That is a great action shot. I totally understand your fun of taking the camera with you to games. Both of my sons played soccer (the oldest one is a referee now) and many weekends I came home with 1000 or more pictures.
An therefor I also know how hard it is to anticipate on where the ball will be to make a nice frame.
But this picture has a great amount of action and passion in it.

I understand why they've closed their eyes - but that's probably why they whiffed on the ball
Have to say you showed much better timing than they did.

Thanks Jet and Roy. Here's some more expressions which I had already resized to send to his Mum but no PP. Wouldn't have bothered otherwise...

And being a proud Granddad I suppose I should add not only were they the best league team but he won the best player of the year award.....

Best player of the year award is really something to be very proud of.
You edit some great actions and face expressions. I like 4 where the rubber of the field comes up.

The first shot was taken with s fast shutter. The later action shots seem to be done with slower shutter and the dynamics are well visible. Always good to change speed in report work like this. Loved viewing it, TFS Peter .

Thanks again Jet and thanks Michele, yes I do try to change SS depending on conditions, in this case I changed lens too. Started with 100-400mm, none here and went to 70-200mm, all the above when the light went.
