I like this idea. I will try to do my part to help. What I find interesting is that I don't always agree with the weekly exhibition and some that I think should have made it don't make it.
Since I have no formal photographic education, my eye is "naive". It will be interesting if me (and other members) come up with a particular picture that we all think is nice but the AE's don't agree. I'm sure the AE's will include it in the weekly exhibition despite their personal reservations. Yes, more diversity is indeed welcome. Only time will tell, of course, how it will work out in the long run. |

For us lazy people, can we use just type "POTW?" instead of typing out the whole "exhibition candidate" when we report post?

Sure, just use whatever you want as long as it is clear that you want to add a candidate for Weekly Exhibition and which particular photo you mean (as there could be several in the same post).

You can directly link to individual posts within a topic (i.e. Themed Views or Lens Sample Images) by clicking on the blue dot (or gold star for an unread post) beside the Posted: Date & Time header and then after the refresh copy the address in your browser window. That way when you click on the link instead of having to start at the top of the page and scroll search for the post the link will take you directly to it.

Great idea, will do my best to take part. I've always thought it must be a hell of a job for all the mods etc. to do this each week so happy to do anything I can when I can.

I'm sure this will work well. The idea of a bigger "selection group" will as you say add more diversity to the POTW candidates. We sometimes see the comment on a post saying "WOW that's a POTW. So now formalizing the process sits pretty well with me.
That's my 2 cents worth ( and leaves me 98cents for further posts ) Syd |

Thanks to those who have indicated their support this idea.
I have already processed two nominations without any reason to question their validity. |

The response has been such that there are currently 52 candidates, and there's a day to go before votes are counted.

The opening times for submissions for the next exhibition are generally at 08:30 Central European Time on Thursdays. Nominations made after that time CANNOT be considered. So only shots posted between roughly Thursday 08:30 CET week x and Thursday 08:30 CET week x+1 can be considered for the weekly exhibition of week x+1. Nominating shots from before that period will not be considered Edited by MiPr - 12 May 2012 at 14:36 |

Small correction: we close the exhib for new candidates on Thursdays at around 08:30 CET (but we are a bit flexible with this ).
