I'm interested in those who shoot weddings/portraits, how many queries do you receive each month, on average (from your website)?

I have built my own website (I don't like paying someone to do something I can figure out!) and usually get 5-6 enquiries per month.

For a month I received nothing and then 4 in the past 48 hours!

One small comment - do you have anything in your portfolio ? I was just having a browse and no photos there. You might get more enquiries if you have more samples for viewing.

I'm sure you will hate me but this is a more complex topic than a simple numerical answer.

To begin with, it really doesn't matter how many other people get as they don't represent your business or your goals. Granted, it you can think its good to "have an idea", it's not really relevant. And any specifics will vary so much it makes it all sort of useless however you look at it. To give you a real life example, two photographers I know pretty well: one had 24 inquires last year and booked 22. The other had a little over 1000 and booked 15 weddings, around 100 portrait sessions. They're both happy with their business but both very different people, very different businesses.

In the early days it can be good to track some sort if patterns but really you just need to be as consistent as possible and go after your goals rather than waiting for them to fall to you.

I would start at what you need then work your way back.

How many weddings do you want? How will you best reach those couples? How to get their inquiries? How to get their bookings? Make these things happen.

The total inquiries then becomes somewhat a token value. The better you get the more select you can be, or the more your booking % will increase.

As for frequency, I find it can vary to some extent, but it's not a particular important stat to me.

If you are getting most inquires through you website, just make sure it works well. So many people (especially DIY) habe websites with really bad layout that just make it more difficult than anything else. Make sure it's easy for people to contact you.

Thanks for the reply. I agree it's not as simple as number of queries, however, my question really is simple - I'm just interested. Not fussed what conversions people make, just seeing how people do tbh.

There may be a little attempt to keep the 'photography as a business' subforum going as well

Do you get any feedback on your website, its design / UI?

I didn't mean to undermine your post Stuart, sorry if it came across that way. I simply meant for 'the business of photography' it's worth opening this up, as it's multifaceted, and focusing on one menial figure won't really do you or other readers much good (just IMHO).

Best of luck

Stuart, your links to portfolios indeed lead to empty pages, unless I am missing something.

Nope you're not missing anything! I am on it!

I have tried to keep my site simple which seems to work for potential clients. I've made it very easy for people to use and access the contact pages also which makes firing off a quick query nice and easy.

For what it is, my website works for me. I am not a wordpress convert despite its apparent ease of updating/accessing.

Am I allowed, as a software developer, to detect a slight sense of irony between your first post and current dilemma?

You certainly are allowed!

I don't purport to be a website designer, so these things will happen, and often.

Nevermind

I know loads of people hate wordpress, it can be unstable, easily hacked. It's not a holy grail by any means.

I think the difficult thing can sometimes be understanding what works for your clients rather than just sticking with what you're comfortable/happy with yourself

I checked the site - no portfolio images here either - windows 7 64bit, Chrome. As touched upon before, having the basic functionality 100% is something many people stumble with, and is a good way to instantly make people hit the back button.

Should be easy to solve though, good luck!

Pretty incredible number of keywords and SEO style hidden text in your gallery pages, but no actual gallery.

How are you updating the site?

This looks like where your images should go - except it's completely empty.
