Here is quick list of steps needed to run your Minolta scanner on Windows Vista or Windows 7, including 64 bit versions:
1. Install original Minolta software and drivers. Do this without connecting your scanner. 2. Connect your scanner and turn it on with doors closed. It will install using original drivers. Reboot if necessary. 3. Download updated .inf file for Minolta scanners. You can get it here or google it out. Uncompress zip file or put downloaded .inf file somewhere on your disk. 4. Go to "Control panel" and launch "Device Manager". Find your Minolta scanner, right click on it and choose "Update Driver Software". 5. When prompted for driver choose downloaded .inf file. When installation will be finished reboot if necessary. 6. Your scanner should work now ![]() I've used this procedure to get my Scan Dual III running under Windows 7 64 bit. It works fine if I'll launch Minolta software or SilverFast as standalone application. However it fails when called as twain from within graphic software - it says "close your scanner doors" despite they're closed. I don't know if this is specific to Scan Dual III or not, but I'd use standalone mode anyway so I don't care. Enjoy your scans! |

Well if this works you are a hero, as this fix (or similar) originally used an earlier version of the .inf file, however unlike earlier ones in this one the D'image elite II is listed.
I will be very happy if this works in my win7 64. I'll try it and report back. |

To be honest, I just found few versions of .inf file on the net and this one seemed most recent. It worked fine for me so I thought I'll share it with you.

It works great, therefore confirmed for DS Elite 5400II on Win 7 64bit.

Thanks for sharing this info and file! The MINOLTA.INF file in your archive is dated 2011-06-22 and seems to be a derivation of Vitor Fonseca's MINOLTA.INF file as of 2010-10-12, which is still available here: http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/tutorial-installing-minolta-dimage-scan-vista-7_topic68619.html http://wiki.vitorfonseca.com/%28S%2821yjpc45a3x5weau3ykppm55%29%29/Installing-Minolta-DiMAGE-Scan-Elite-5400-under-Windows-7.ashx?NoRedirect=1#C_Installation_1 Do you still know, where you found your version of the file? It might be useful to track this down in order to avoid many different versions of the file floating around with only partial support. Perhaps we should add a comment to the file indicating the origin and where users can search for future updates? Also, I find it a bit odd, that the new file suggests a connection of Sony with (Konica) Minolta's former scanner business. There is none - Sony has nothing at all to do with it. We should try to correct this (at the source) before this false information starts to spread and confuses people. Mind, that there were actually some genuinely Konica scanners, which have been also available under the Sony label, long before the Konica Minolta merger: http://www.mi-fo.de/forum/index.php?showtopic=25032
None of these scanners is supported by the .INF file. The list of scanners in your file is larger than in Vitor's original file, but it is still not complete. Some years ago I compiled a list of Minolta scanner variants with full official names and article codes: http://www.mi-fo.de/forum/index.php?showtopic=18593
This list may help us to further improve the .INF file and perhaps add support for the two missing scanners Minolta Dimage Scan Multi II F-3100 and Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro AF-5000. Greetings, Matthias Edited by matthiaspaul - 01 October 2011 at 16:14 |

Another "nerdy" solution is to run virtual machine with version of OS which drivers support (Win 98 etc.). Bit hardcore, but my old scanner worked that way. :D

Searching the web, the new file seems to originate from here:

The interesting part of the new .inf file is that it seems it might also support firewire connection for the Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 (2890-101) under Vista and Windows 7.
I will need to test and confirm if it really works. Regarding adding additional scanners to the inf file, it should be possible if we know the hardware_id/device_id. For example: "Minolta Scan Dual II" = USBScanner,USB\Vid_0638&Pid_026a The hardware_id/device_id for the Minolta Scan Dual II is Vid_0638&Pid_026a. If your scanner isn't supported by the .inf file you should go to device manager. The scanner should show in the list either on Other Devices or Imaging Devices. Now with the mouse on top of the device press the right button and select properties. Click the details tab and select the property Hardware Ids. You should now be able to copy the value from there. Select the one that as USB\Vid_xxxx&Pid_xxxx (NOTE: I'm assuming a USB scanner, but it should be pretty similar for SCSI or Firewire) Create a new entry on the .inf with your scanner name. For example "Minolta XXXX" = USBScanner,USB\Vid_XXXX&Pid_XXXX Save and do the steps on the OP but use the new file this time. Edited by vitor - 01 October 2011 at 16:45 |

It seems to depend on the Firewire driver used. Kain Anderson suggest to use the "legacy" driver under Windows 7, not the new one. See also:

Matthias,
I was told by Silverfast support that the film scanner division was obtained by Sony in the Konica Minolta deal, but as of that time Sony had chosen not to do anything with it. They said LaserSoft had been trying to get the necessary technical information from Sony so that they could implement iSRD using the KM IR channel and also provide SF for those scanners with new operating systems without reverse engineering. FWIW. Probably doesn't have anything to do with this file. Or? Hawk, Thank you very much for supplying this information! Great work and contributions everyone! Kelly |
