Now I see why it also has LED lights, for video! d'oh!
And it does come with a hot shoe adaptor (ADP-AMA)

Uhggg... the rumors stated something to the effect of a very clever hot shoe adapter. I was expecting something that looked virtually stock, smooth, built in...

This looks like a regular hot shoe adapter. Surely the Chinese will have $5 versions very soon.

The question is, what hotshoe does it fit for camera? Has Sony made a completely new design that is not ISO because the latest reviews does not quite tell?

But if the a99 indeed have a completely new proprietary hotshoe design, that would be really very unattractive to me.

Okay, on dpreview.com, it says that the a99 have the ISO 518 standard hotshoe. I'm in love!!

I like the LED light. I would love to see how effective it is.

There are two hotshoe adapters:

AMA goes from iISO on the camera to the new 'standard' shoe.

MAA goes from new 'Standard' shoe to iISO

Both seem to be the same price and are relatively (for Sony) cheap...

The adapter for the HVL-F60M and the ring light (ISO hotshoe) to the iISO hotshoe are included with the lights, and the camera includes the adapter to allow all the iISO flashes to be used.

I think it will support standard shoe flashes, but has additional functions for what sony calls "new multi-interface accessories."

I found a picture showing 9 additional contacts at the front on the F60 flash that has the same shoe specification.

Thanks for the heads-up, Analytical. On the far side out, I will play the role of a troll and soon predict moans and mutters that the F60 does not work with the rest of the current Alpha(s).

No "moans and mutters" that it doesn't work. Just ticked off it requires adapters to work.

This... won't be any easier for 3rd parties to create Smart Radio Slaves for than iISO. Isn't that the reason most folk think they wanted it?

I just don't understand why the iISO couldn't have been retained, made more robust, metal, with more terminals, and with an adapter to convert for smart ISO when desired.   An updated iISO could have provided just as much functionality and still retained legacy compatibility without another freaking adapter.

And really, the word "standard" is really being misused here. The iISO Minolta was the "standard" Minolta mount for 25 years. Just when every accessory comes available for it, Sony answers with killing it, and us, with more adapters. Call me crazy, but I just don't get too excited at the thought of needing an adapter to make my Sony flash work native with my Sony camera. The whole adapter game is what we're trying to avoid.

If you are referring to other alpha bodies it has been announced that the HVL-F60M will come with adapter to work back w/ older bodies. At least that is my understanding.

I may be wrong (it certainly happens), but was it not a part of the agreement between KonicaMinolta and Sony that Sony should keep both the A mouth and the iISO hot shoe alive?

Never heard of such an agreement, but, in any event, by providing adapters for the new shoe to work with the iISO camera, and vice-versa, they do just that.
