OK, I have got it going with my 5D. There are different configuration options for 5D and 7D.

I trapped the log and this is what I got:

Release Counter
6099
Flash fire Counter
623
No.,Error Code
1,0x00000000
2,0x00000000
3,0x00000000
4,0x00000000

The version is 2186r008204983298100032882100000C9076 - presumably the firmware version.

I'll be reading the manual some more before I try anything else. The only thing I am really interested in is capturing the firmware bin so I have a backup.

Anyone who can shed light on that please do.

A note, it was the devils own job to get that driver loaded so don't panic if it doesn't fire up straight away. I had to boot the computer before it was recognised.

If you look in the viewfinder while in adjust mode you can see a code of some sort, I might have mentioned previously. You do need to remove the battery to exit the adjust mode. TAKE CARE NOT TO DESTROY THE BATTERY COVER by absent-mindedly putting the cam down with the cover open. Ahem.

Thanks for sharing this.
So, it seems that 5D owners now have the option to find the exact number of actuations taken.

btw, Keith, when did you purchased your 5D? I'm wondering if we may find some template of pulling out production date out of the version code.

Anyone else prepared to share logs or any other data ?

Pete, do you think is possible that 2186 adjustment program has actually replaced the older 2181 one? Options i get with 2186 are just the same as those described in the 7D repair manual so i believe it has just the same capabilities (with new cameras added).

I am also interested in learning how to save and load the bin, especialy after reading how it needs reloading after 5000 releases!

No, but I do remember one time when I was shooting off a large number of Jpeg's in rapid fire, I experienced a dark frame and the camera was hot. I let it cool down and it has not happened again. I meant to ask what error code 58 was.

Kiklop, so are you saying that this program is not for the 7D?

No, it IS for 7D. But for 5D this software does a lot more.
KM has apparently learned a lot from experiences with 7D and has simplified the whole thing with 5D providing far more software adjustments than with 7D (which does require more specialized tools for most adjustments).

Thanks, I assume the error codes match the repair manual repairs?

This explains why they clear this when they do not make repairs to the camera even though there is an error for it.

I checked all the PDF files, but could not find a list of errors. Kiklop, any translation of the error codes?

2186 Service Manual Troubleshooting Chart;
the following is mentioned both err 58 and a0 that your log shows.

2186 Supplementary Information; is stating err 58 for the known first black frame issue.

Thanks, my page 3 was blank, because it kept asking to install Japanese fonts. Allowed update and now I see it.
