It's what I call excellent service. Rang to confirm I was about to post and that was that.

Sent my 5D to JPSS on Thursday last week by Special Delivery. It arrived back today Tuesday by Courier. So two working days to turn it around.

As you say. Excellent service.

My Alpha 7D (Jpn domestic version) started to exhibit FFB during my recent trip to Nicaragua.

It is not covered by the Precision camera plan (I asked directly) like my (now sold) KM 5D was..

Does any one know if Sony Japan offers FFB service still?

The reason I ask is that I will be in Japan at the end of September for a 10 days.

If not I will probably use it until she packs it in.. Maybe pick up another 7D while in japan as well Hummm .

Has anyone in Canada recently had their 7D repaired for FFB issue?

Mine just packed it in - had a couple brief episodes before, just one black frame, then restart and good for couple of months before it would happen again, but has worked fine otherwise. On the weekend it just decided it was going to do it every time - cannot take any pics now.

Just contacted Sony Canada and the rep indicated I can send it in for estimate, but no repairs of any kind are being done for free. He also said that all KM repairs are farmed out to a facility in the USA.

Would appreciate hearing about any recent Canadian experiences in this regard.

to bill_bly_ca: I'm surprised Precision told you that. I sent mine in Aug. 4 and it's on its way home to me right now, will probably arrive tomorrow. They said it is covered and haven't quoted me any fee. So unless there is a bill enclosed with my camera, which I never authorized, they are still fixing it for free. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Is your camera an ALPHA 7D or is a Konica Minolta 7D ?...

If you are in North America only a Konica Minolta 7D is covered by Precision. I have been told that an ALPHA 7D is not covered by the NA warranty liability SONY assumed responsibility for for Minolta. I assume the same is true for a DYNAX 7D but I did not ask that question directly.

I am told that the same policy applies to the Sweet over the Konica Minolta 5D as well.

Last fall I sent my 5D directly to Precision after discussing with Mark Soares ( MSoares member of Dyxum and Employee of Precision )

Contact MSoares by Dyxum PM for details.

I sent mine directly via Canada post insured (To precision) the camera returned to my house by overnight (I think UPS) and by a shipping method that left me with no broker fees to pay. I think it was just a bit over a week.

Received my KM 7D back from Precision today, first frame black fixed, no charge. Here's a question for those who've been through this: Once the first frame black is fixed, can it recur or is it fixed forever?

If you look through the (many) pages of this thread there are more than a few instances of recurrence, all were covered a second time through the respective regions warranty centers.

@bill_bly_ca:
thanks for the info, Bill.

Sent the 7D off to Precision today.

BTW - indications seem to be that service under the advisory will not be supported too much longer. If anyone is experiencing ffb symptoms, they should probably think about sending their camera in now.

Well my son's 'back-up' 7D is off to JPSS in the UK for it's third charge cam assembly. At least we get a free sensor clean.

For those of guys in the USA. Did you have to contact SONY to arrange for the repair or is it possible to contact Precision Camera directly with this issue?
