Hi dutch-alpha

Some Sigma lenses don't "click" fully onto the body. The pin on the camera does not line up properly with the hole on the lens requiring a minor widening of the hole on the lens with a light drilling or even a small screwdriver. If you do that (at your own risk I might add but it is a simple job) make sure you blow away all the metal shavings before mounting the lens on the camera.

AFAIK all AF lenses that worked on the Minolta DSLRS will work with any Sony DSLR.

I had a Sigma 1.8/20 with a 1... serial number, and it definitely did not work on either my Alpha 100, nor Bramley's KM 7D. It did work fine on his Minolta 7 SLR, though.

I had it replaced with a 2... serial number lens, so I never even went as far as getting the 1... lens re-chipped.

DOH

Now that I have looked closer, the list I linked to above also has a link here to discontinued lenses. I take this to mean that ROM chips would no longer be available, although the lens may work if an A-mount version is listed.

Ok, not to be a pain in the Bokeh but, has anyone ever heard of a Sigma 75-300mm / 4.5-5.6. I didn't see it listed here, but I have one. Got it with one of my Max 7000 and it works great but it doesn't work with my A700 so let's put this one on a list too. Serial # 102xxxx so I know a chip isn't out there. Maybe I will sell it with one of the Maxxums I have.

I wonder if i just replace the ROM chip with a ROM chip from KM 50/1.7. I believe the len should work but SSS won't work properly.

Do you mean the APO shown here? Some people have used it with the 7D.
I actually have it but used it once on my 7D and the aperture lugs jumped each other and locked the lens in the camera mount. I have not "trusted" it since.

You can also try to buy a programmed chip from JamesLaoT and put that in the lens yourself (he also sells chipped M42 adapters) and see if that works. Maybe PM him to inquire if he has experience with something like that. I dealt with him in the past and he's very good and reliable.

A work colleage has offered me a Tokina AF 35-300mm F4.5-6.7 that he thinks came off a Canon, will it fit my Sony A200?

No Way...only AF lenses that fitted Sony and Minolta cameras will fit a Sony camera...and a few of these (mostly old Sigma designs) won't work properly.

As I reported elsewhere, I recently got a Sigma APO Macro 180mm f/2.8 (1:2) and was initially told by the clerk at a reputable used camera store that it wouldn't work on DSLRs. I tried it on an A700 and a 5D and it works fine on both. I have no idea if it has been rechipped. The serial number is a very early looking 1000056.

I have the Non macro non APO Sigma 400m f5.6 in grey that I bought way back in 1990, it works as good on Dynax 7d and A700 as it did on my 7000i and 7xi.

I am not looking forward to the day that it decides not to play any more

I have the 70-300mm F4-5,6 DL macro super (bought 10 years ago) and though I do not use it extensively, it seems to work properly. Will update after a closer study.

I have an old sigma lens used on a Minolta SRT100x
The lens is a 70-210 APO zoom 3.5-4.5
52mm Dia
The serial/model number could be 1002988
the case is green and black

Do you know if it can be used on a sony A350 (as I am looking to buy one)

Hope you can help
