Non-native lenses on E- and A-mount cameras

The recent introduction of FF E-mount cameras by Sony will undoubtedly increase the number of users of non-native glass.
So it seems like a good idea to organize some kind of structure for those who want to post/see/comment on ... photos taken with non-native lenses.

I have tried to follow the suggestions put forward in the thread a7R with non-native lenses

The basic idea is to have a separate thread for each non-native lens, here in the 'Other mount lenses' subforum; the topic title of each each sample image thread is in the format "Samples_Lens name".

This index thread is meant as a place where new threads of samples added by Dyxum members can be coordinated and updated.

If you want to start a new thread for samples of a lens that isn't in the index, copy the text from the 2nd post in this thread as the opening of your thread. In the first post of a lens sample thread it seems useful to give some technical specs of the lens, so I added some fields for this. Of course, you may not know (all of) the specs but some others might provide the information later on.

Please do not post pictures to this index thread, but add a message to it giving a link to the samples thread created by you, and I will add your lens and a link to your thread in the index.

BTW: if all this sounds familiar to you: I copied berlin steve's idea of Show us cities of the world. Thank you Steve!

Serdar, it's good to mention the adapter used, but best in the samples post imo. For instance, M42 lenses can be used on E-mount and A-mount, obviously with different adapters. So it depends on the body which adapter you use. Also, there are many adapters. So mentioning one in the opening post is not very informative I think.

With the introduction of the Metabones/Lens turbos and the like, i think it would be informative to have it within the lens description since this would have an effect on the actual coverage and max aperture light transmission rendering of each lens.

Just my 2 cents worth

Michel, thanks for your comment and I agree with you that those adapters influence the way the lens performs; but not everyone will use the lens in combination with such adapters, so it's best to give that information in the post of the samples; not with the general specs of the lens in the first post.

A little BUMP for all those happy owners of the marvelous a7/R.
You all must be testing your other mount lenses on your new toys.

Don't forget to make a samples thread here in the Other mounts subforum!!!

i took a look at the examples of legacy glass on E- and A-mount cameras. although there are as yet only a few examples it can grow into a substantial amount of information for a lot of us.

i would like to make a suggestion though on how to present the examples. as it is, most examples are shown at it's best - processed as the person who shot them deemed optimal. that clearly shows what can be achieved with the lens - but does not give a clear indication how much effort is needed to get there.

would it be possible, when showing a example, to show both the image as delivered by the camera (as in Lightroom and ACR with all settings set to zero, with no treatment whatsoever apart from the conversion from raw to JPG without added contrast etc) alongside a properly processed/optimized image?

that way we could get a idea whether there is a lot of vignetting, color shifting, CA, need for sharpening etc.

That's a good idea romke.
But unprocessed RAWs are rather flat, so to prevent having to watch long series of flat photos, my suggestion is to limit this to one example (or 2 if the lens has many issues).

You are right. One or two images should be enough to show what needs to be done and what shortcomings, if any, are to be expected.

As all versions of a lens will be discussed in a single thread, I have changed the Minolta SR names to: MC/MD/Rokkor xmm Fy, in the index and in the first post of each samples thread.

This seemed to me to be in line with Minolta's lens naming strategy for these lenses.
The first lenses (from 1959) were Rokkors, then came the MC Rokkors, followed by the MD Rokkors, and finally only MD remained. There are only a handful of lenses that do not have one of these elements in their name.

If lenses have only one or two versions (for instance only Rokkor or only Rokkor and MC Rokkor, the name will have only those elements.
The famous 58/1.2 only appeared as MC Rokkor so its name is MC Rokkor 58mm F1.2 in the index and the first post of the sample thread.

Other elements like W (for wide) and Tele, and X for the American lenses, as well as the two letters following the Rokkor name, indicating the optical construction of the lens have been left out in the index for reasons of clarity.
