Well it has been 5 years since my last camcorder purchase. Yesterday I traded in my beloved Sony CX900 and purchased the Sony AX53. I hope I didn't make a mistake losing the one inch sensor. I really wanted two things out of a camcorder. A 20x optical zoom and 4k recording. The B.O.S.S stabilization system in this camera is just a bonus. I'll take you guys through the camera do a few tests and give you my initial thoughts. I know I am very late moving to this camera but there may be others like me out there wondering if there is still any point in making this purchase.

It seems Sony uses the same lens on all 1" camcorders. Did you consider the Sony RX10 III or RX10 IV? It is a completely different form factor, but it is about the price your CX900 was and it is a more versatile camera: it is both good in video and stills. |

Addy, yes I really did consider the Rx10iv...but I like the camcorder factor. I own both A and E mount DSLR's. I find some things are just better with a camcorder. I shoot a lot of kids events...sports and plays etc.
After doing some low light with the AX53 last night reviewing yesterdays footage and then recording a baseball game I filmed last evening I can clearly see the AX53 is not the same image quality as the cx900. Its very good. I would say 83%...Yes not quite 85...but certainly not 80...However this camera does so many things I want ie; 20x zoom, faster zoom, faster AF, 4k, B.O.S.S stabilization and the biggest surprise to me the weight and size. I think I still have to keep it. If for only one reason. Sony doesn't make a 1 inch camcorder with all of those other boxes checked. I will upload some follow up low light footage and compare it to the cx900 in a later video if anyone cares. |

You can use your E-mount cameras when you need better low light performance anyway.
