Show us... Bornhom, Denmark
Show us islands of the world is your chance to show the island near where you live, or where you live on, or where you've been- then please choose pictures from your chosen island and either upload to an existing location thread, or if your location is not shown then start as a new thread. The usual Dyxum content rules apply- but to assist fellow Dyxumers inspired to visit locations that are shown, please indicate where in/on your island the photos were taken. This thread is open for C&C and for posting additional pictures. Please ONLY post pictures taken at the island indicated- or start a new thread. There is one island which is the one which I have spent most of my "island time" on. This series is from my last visit. #1 The ghost ship (taken from the ferry) #2 Harvesting wind (taken from the ferry) #3 Before sunrise #4 After sunset #5 A little smokehouse #6 My favorite harbor #7 A time to rest #8 Harbored #9 Beaufort 6 #10 Smooth sea #11 Gone is the summer #12 Church window #13 Church #14 My favorite small town #15 Apartments #16 Rear mirror view #17 Lighthouse #18 Lighthouse #19 Street view #20 No smoking at night #21 Modern family #22 Sunrise (taken from the ferry, on a long and stormy way home) Sony A99II with Sigma Art F/4 24-105mm and Minolta APO HS F/2.8 200mm and Sony 1.4x TC My apologies for this long post. C&C always welcome! Thanks for viewing! Here is the link to some IR images of the island! Edited by waldo_posth - 03 March 2023 at 21:05 |

And this is what Dyxum brings to me - a great look at a place that I will never visit and there is nothing in the U.S. (where I live) that even remotely looks like it. As to the images, I love minimalist scenes so #8 is the winner for me with #22 a close second. However, both of these do not really show the unique feel and look of the island. In that regard #'s 17 and 20 are wonderful small looks. The mystery of #18 and all the interesting detail in #10, so wonderfully composed, are superb as well.

Wonderful series of images that covey the specialness of this place.
All are striking but my favourites (and there are many) are ##5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 18 and 20. Looking forward to seeing at least some of them showcased in POTW exhibitions. Thanks for sharing. |

Yes, it's Bornholm - mostly Svaneke and Aarsdale. The ferry rides are from Sassnitz to Roenne and from Roenne to Ystad.
Thank you all for your kind comments! |

Number ten for me is my favorite. Btw number 17 very early or very late with that same composition would be a cracker in the right light. Tfs

A lovely series Harald with a nice mixture of shots that convey the charm of the place (#6, #8, #11, #14 etc) and others that are more "bravura" (#4, #7,#9 & #22). And some of your wonderful night shots as well. Some of them I really should stare at a bit more: #5 is quite complex #6 seems to be "held together" by the bow bottom right but I'm not sure how! #8 is balanced by the gap in the wall on the right but there's no way I would have spotted that scene So - an instructive series as well! Fine island indeed. You had great variety of subjects and had enough time to capture light at different time of the day which is why we see fine variety here.
Your compositions, colors and processing are fine. What this set reveals to me is that you really enjoyed being there. It is not easy to pick favorite but #18 appeals to me very much. |
