Show us... Madeira, Portugal Show us islands of the world is your chance to show the island near where you live, or where you live on, or where you've been- then please choose pictures from your chosen island and either upload to an existing location thread, or if your location is not shown then start as a new thread. The usual Dyxum content rules apply- but to assist fellow Dyxumers inspired to visit locations that are shown, please indicate where in/on your island the photos were taken. This thread is open for C&C and for posting additional pictures. Please ONLY post pictures taken at the island indicated- or start a new thread. The Coast The coast in question is that of Madeira Island in the Atlantic. Since I live in mainland Europe the next coast is about 200 km away - but I rather would like to live at the sea. So this series is not about an overrun tourist spot - which it has become, but about the feel of being at the coast. #1 A Little Regatta and the Glowing Sea #2 The Lookout Bench #3 Coast Stroll #4 Mighty Clouds #5 Sun cover #6 Relax #7 The Edge #8 Green Velvet #9 Beacon at Day #10 Beacon at Night #11 Breakwater Wall at Night #12 Clouds Over Shadowland Sony SLT-A99V with Tamron F/3.5-6.3 28-300mm Di PZD C&C always welcome! Thanks for viewing! Here are some other images of Madeira which I have posted: Above the clouds Oscar Niemeyer's Casino Park (at night) Edited by waldo_posth - 06 March 2023 at 13:13 |

This a great series, the first shots sets the mood for the rest well. Just love it with that reflection on the water, dark blue sky and well defined structure in the water. Excellent work Waldo, TFS

well, number 10 is definetely very interesting, fantasy works well guessing if those are some toys on your table or it is really a sea shore :)

What a pleasure to browse through these. Marvellously contrasty in the first section (maybe one or two haloes on some dark/light boundaries especially 3,4) and the scenes are splendidly simple.
The drift towards more abstract looks is fun. I especially enjoyed the pair of Beacon photos - it almost looks like a totally fake miniature in the dark photo. Good stuff! |

What a great series, just my sort of pictures, I love the sun off the sea contrast so 1 - 6 & 12 are my favorites - what is a halo anyway ??
A good mix of shots for every taste & well presented too. Thanks - I'm going to the Welsh coast this w/end & aspire to take something half as good ! Keep up the good work Richard T |

Nice series in this theme. Number one is my favourite - a very unique image from such a typical view. Feels like something taken through a microscope. Lovely.

Thank you all for your kind comments!
@infrastellar & @mikey: I included #9, of course, to prove that #10 is not somehow fabricated on my table - anticipating that kind of remark. |

Hello Harald;
from one Coast to another Coast _____________ NICE The concept and the inception are Brilliant, as was your 3rd Man Theme set, which still occupies a space in my mind. The execution is of the highest caliber. #3 is my favorite, but the whole set has this amazing Peace and Serenity to it, except for maybe the cloud. It helps me appreciate my coast as much as I should. Which I have been Blessed with most of my life and you are also familiar. "San Luis Obispo to Bodega Bay". Thank you; Your Bodie Buddy________Josef |

#1 - very interesting and appealing way to present the subject, a near abstract all about the shapes and contrast. #12 - excellent simplicity.

Not only a very attractive set of pictures, but rather thought-provoking too.
I love the combination of sparse detail and plain colours with high contrast in the first few. I'd normally be frightened to use such high contrast but it really works. Thanks for showing them. |
