So, for me this will be a double documentaire. The Island + the festival. But please feel free to add any pictures of the Island Located in the Waddenzee, the Island is under great influnce of the strong tides. Adding drama to the sceanery on the southern parts. #1 #2 The northern side of the Island has a very long sandy beach streched out over the whole lenght, about 30KM #3 #4 #5 Cycling is the your best way around the Island. Discover the 70KM cycle paths a hug diversity. #6 #7 The festival has some 60 locations, all but a few 'outdoor'. This brings the visitor to some of the most intruiging place for a concert, theater, poetry of art. #8 #9 #10 #11 #12 #13 #14 #15 #16 Small villages on the Island get a bit crowded during the 10 days festival. Streettheater bring life the normaly quiet places #17 #18 #19 #20 #21 #22 The Island has a famous lighthouse on the main settlement/harbour - West Terschelling calles Brandaris. It's light can be seen on the whole Island. #23 #24 Edited by Micholand - 23 March 2023 at 20:11 |

Wow, this is a great set of images of this island, very diverse -and so many beautiful shots. #3 (numbered images always welcome for easier commenting) is absolutely outstanding IMHO. Texel and Terschelling are missing on my personal list of island experiences - I have visited Ameland and Schiermonikog (long ago, but no photographs), though - and hope they get a similar representation here.
Thank you, Maarten! (P.S.: I would be interested in the story of the VW Beetle that has been converted into a swimming pool!) |

Yes, a great set. I've been to Texel, Ameland and to Schiermonnikoog but not to Terschelling or Vlieland; must add them to the list. I like the red piles in the sand and the super shove ha'penny or sjoelen boards. TFS!

Thanks for your kind words
#21 The (VW) beetle-bubble-bath is an art project. Not much realy to say about it as that visiters to the festival could borrow bathing suits to take a plunge while by-standers could enjoy the fun #16 The red tiles are also an art exhibition. A French artist had taken a truckload (30.000) athentic French rooftiles to the Island and spread them in such a manner so that wind blown sand would pile up against it made the art work transform throughout the weeks it was there. |

It's my favourite island It's al there, seas, beach, forest, dunes etc. And as you mentioned, great to explore by bike.
Never been to Oeral, but my sisters were a big fan that festival. It still looks good, although their complaint was that it's getting bigger and too organised these days. TFS Maarten |

Terschelling was the destination of our college graduation ceremony – so it's been a very, very long time since I was last there. My favorite island is Schiermonnikoog, where I spend 1 week almost every year. But Terschelling is hardly further away, maybe go there again?
Very interesting and entertaining set Maarten, thanks for sharing. In which month does the festival usually take place? |
