It's April, so another month has passed with no new cameras, lenses or even, any gear purchased. And I sold a lens. Albeit this month could be tough. There's a DJI store in the Mall near the Hotel I'm staying at in Nanjing. |

Drone time? Or Action Cams? Or those weird little cameras on a stick?

@Hezu - well, yes, I'm going to be safe from purchases of new Sony lenses or cameras
![]() @Howard_S - thinking about the action cameras or the DJI Mic 2 for videography. I don't think I'm enthused about getting into Drone photography ![]() |

Yes the microphone looks good ... It was the Osmo Pocket 3 I was thinking of, which seems to occupy a space that would compete with the smaller Sony ZV cameras. The 1" sensor is an attractive feature.

And now the FX30 is gone. Albeit I won't be able to complete the sale (despatch the camera) until the 21 April when I get back from Nanjing. My kit is actually shrinking, with no plans to add any new lenses (or cameras) this month |

Still no new gear here! Of course there are plenty of temptations! It's a constant battle -- telling myself "you don't need any new cameras or lenses! You can't afford new Cameras or lenses! In fact you should be selling off some of the stuff that you rarely use these days -- like Wētāpunga who has been setting a great example to the rest of us!
Yet, new gear, like "Sirens"call! A7rV, 20mm f1.8, Tamron 20-40mm f.8, and 17-50mm f4, to name a few! ![]() ![]() |

Howard- it's just the a1 does everything now the FX30 does. All the FX30 has is the cageless design and the cooling fan. I can get a cage for the a1, it's pretty good for long recording anyway, and also adds 8k video. And with the firmware update, I now get focus breathing with the 24-105mm.
If I'm out somewhere, I'm just more likely to switch the a1 to a video recording mode than I am to put the FX30 in my bag as a second camera. When I had the a7Riii (and a9) the FX30 filled a gap. But the a1 is really covering my video needs now. So after considering the history of use and comparing capabilities, I decided it was no longer 'worth' keeping. |

Mōrena Kelly,
Yeah, I always feel the little tugs of temptation, but like you I'm aware of budgets and needs. I like stuff to have a 'return' in terms of either use or revenue. So it's prudent every couple of years or so, to take stock in what I'm using, and sell off some rarely employed gear. (Or upgrade some other accessories- like I did with my E-mount Sony flashes). OTOH, I haven't used the 135mm STF for a while, but I'm going to keep it ![]() Edited by Wētāpunga - 13 April 2024 at 04:23 |
