Muriwai beach seascapes.
As part of my Photo150 challenge I'm trying to add more and more seascapes to my collection. Early Friday evening, just before sunset, I tried getting some wave shots at Muriwai beach. This is a long beach popular with surfers (also home to a takapu (gannet) colony) north of Auckland. Both shots below were taken with my Sony a7riii and Zeiss Lxia 21mm, with an ND64 (6 stop) filer to slow the shutter to 1/3 sec and f8. #1 Incoming waves (this shot is also in my Photo150 challenge for this week) ![]() #2 Rocks ![]() |

Kai, much that I like the first shot, the second looks identical!

Thanks Howard, I can assure you they were taken as part of different sequences. I do think the first shot has more 'balance'- the waves to the left of the rocks look less like empty space. But I wish it had also exposed more of the rocks at the far end. The second shot doesn't have the wave peaking to the left, has a larger dip between the rocks and next wave, and has more of the rocks at the end of exposed. It can be tricky guessing what waves will do... |
