@Derfian, I prefer #1 as well, more varied and some foreground interest. Colors on both are nice with the bright wheat under the relative dark blue sky. Composition wise I think both are a bit static with the horizon in the middle, especially 2 could have been a lot more interesting pointing the camera down and show much more wheat from closer to the camera and only a small section of sky (not a lot to see there anyway). Also #1 would benefit from a variation where the horizon is not in the center, but both the rock and the background barn need to be maintained, since they provide scale to the picture.

Great shot captmolo, can't exactly describe why but it all just "sits" in the right place.

The view from the battlements of Culzean Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland looking across to the island of Arran. Normally a beautiful scene but today's broody sky creating something different but equally appealing (imho).
