Does anyone know where I can buy a lens hood for a Maxxum 100-400 mm APO zoom lens (72 mm diam). Is there a non-Sony hood that works too? I've searched the usual suspects like e-bay and some of the big online camera shops but cannot find one.

I can swap the hoods between my 100-400 and my 80-200/2.8, so perhaps any Minolta 72mm bayonet hood will work?

Of course, any 72mm screw-in hood off ebay will work fine, too, you just can't reverse them.

Found myself in a similar situation with the last one I owned and thanks to Dyxum member Pirate, he pointed me towards: 72mm Matin hood

The Sony SH0014 lens hood from my STF fits my 100-400 APO lens. The original 100-400 APO hood and the Sony SH0014 hood are nearly identical in both length and diameter, but there seems to be a slight difference in the bayonet thickness. The SH0014 hood fits better (but not too loose) on my 100-400 APO than the 100-400 APO hood fits on my STF (this is a tighter fit).

Carl...are you sure? My 80-200/2.8 lens hood doesn't come close to fitting on my 100-400 APO lens. The bayonet is way too big.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. For now I'm going to try the Matin option suggested by waleskeg.

You can buy a perfectly good generic MATIN reversible hood from CameraMate2010 via evilBay. Type 'MATIN 72mm Hood' into the evilBay search box for details, or see item: 270578363941.
