Lens hood for Minolta AF 100-400mm F4.5-6.7 APO.

I bought this lens about five years ago to shoot mountain bike racing. Up to now, I've been using a collapsible rubber lens hood which is frankly, a PITA. I'd really like a genuine one.

Can anyone help?

Note: the other day I had a brain wave and took the lens hood off my Sony AF FE 70-200 f4 G and tentatively tried attaching it to the 100-400: it FITTED!

Way better than the rubber hood but I'd still like a genuine hood for it.

Impossible to get one here in New Zealand. eBay doesn't show one. Any ideas?

I know!
That's why I'm happy the hood off my 70-210 fits; it locks on just like the std one but looks odd as it's white and the lens is black.
I'll use that one until/unless a std one turns up for a fair price

Rub the hood down with a bit of wet and dry and spray it satin black . Sorted .

That's why I never buy a lens without the original hood .
Especially ones where you never see the hoods being sold separately , or third party copies being sold .

Not having the correct hood for the lens would do my head in !

I recently bought a Sony 135mm STF lens and had to buy the hood separately , but only after I did a search for the replacement .
I've bought one with a combined price of less than complete units , though after a month and half I'm still waiting for it to be delivered from Australia , as yet it's still not left the country .

If I painted it, it would look weird on my white Sony 70-200!

I guess it's no big deal and, given the hood came off the 70-200; it would be optimised to not vignette 70mm. I think it will work fine (haven't shot with it yet).

I gues it's OK having 1 hood for 2 lenses and that I should just "Suck it up buttercup!" Because, at NZ$135 Plus Postage for a black genuine hood, this freebie is a damn good option!

Well your 70-200 doesn't need it , does it ?

Might as well paint it !
And with your insurance payout , it's a free hood .

Today I sent the 70-200 off for repairs and no, that lens is not covered by insurance.

Get a bit of black neoprene and make a slip on cover for it like the lens covers you can buy , and slip it on when you want to use the Minolta discreetly .

Or get a white lens cover made for the Minolta and then it'll match the hood!
