yeah i have the sony 50 1.4 and it hotspots badly! it helps to get old minolta lenses because they have the IR indicators and they seem to always work with IR. I have a 20, 24, 35 minolta's and they are fine with IR. I fiddled with IR filters before finding a deal on ebay with a minolta 7D IR converted body and it just makes things so much easier. haha.
good job on capturing and inverting the colors to get that IR look. |

Thought I would get to add a few lenses to the list today, but I see at least one was already done (sigma 18mm 3.5).
But! The Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 is listed in both the Good and Decent lists. My tests today would put it in the Good list. Tokina 28-70 F2.8 AT-X non-Pro is pretty good. The IR is slightly muted compared to some, but is reasonably sharp. Blooms on bright IR areas fairly strongly, but no obvious hotspots. Vivitar (same as samyang/rokinon/etc.) 85mm F1.4 is excellent. Only slightly stopped down it was very sharp. High IR transmission and very clean IR images on my modded A330. Edit: I don't see the older Minolta 35-105mm in the list. It has the IR focusing marks and performs very well for me. No problems I can think of. Edited by kerrath - 26 May 2014 at 08:24 |

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated this list. Since I have had a very hard time cleaning the IR glass on my A100 I haven't been using it much. I am tempted to convert a NEX camera to use.

As this thread is about using digital cameras modified for Infrared photography , and how lenses behave on them , I've started a thread here on how they behave when used with infrared film .
So if anyone has any experience using Infrared film , in this case Rollie Infrared film , any information would be appreciated . |

Long time no see! I figured I would try to revive this thread since I now live in Colorado and am hoping to get my poor IR converted A100 back out in the field. I already know a few great locations to try it in come springtime.

Following lenses are devoid of hot spots and all work well: Minolta 35mm (f2), Minolta 50mm (f1.7), Sigma 12-24 (older version).

Saw this discussion, so did a quick test on my Maxxum 7D IR conversion with the sigma 18-300. No hot spots seen, tested at 18, 50 135 and 300mm, all at F8. Also, no hot-spot with SAM 2.8/30mm macro, tested at F2.8,4 &8. For years, I've used the Minolta 2.8/24mm as my standard lens on this camera, with no hot-spot issues, ever.

So I'm here to restart this thread.
I'm looking at this lens from the list: Sigma 10-20 (thanks Aldaer/Polyglot) However, it does not state whether it's the 3.5 or the 4.0 DC version. Specifically, I have the a100 (unmodified) and would love to use this lens with the hoya r72 filter but only if it's going to work well as the filter is not cheap. Any hope on clarification? |

If I'm correct the 3.5 version is a good performer while the 4.0 DC has hotspot
