Shooting with a Sony A7iii, that I bought last year as a new camera, it sometimes happens that I see this phenomenon.
![]() No, I didn't switch off the camera to soon, as this one is just somewhere in a burst shot. All other shots around this one don't have this. It also happens, sometime, when I make a single shot. Please, who can comfort me with the reason? |

Oops, that doesn't look good but it can happen in many places. Can be the camera but also the memory card or a glitch in tranfering the image to the computer.
Here's some questions (and maybe tests) you can do to determine if it's the camera or something further downstream: When it happens do you also see it on the LCD when reviewing the shot? Are you shooting raw or jpg? If you shoot raw+jpg do both images show this when it happens? Does the problem happen with different memory cards or only with one (which might be faulty)? |

Yes.
I'm shooting RAW nowadays, but when it occurred for the first time, I saw it also on the JPG-file, that was stored on the other memory card ![]()
Not tried yet. I'll swap some cards from one camera to another. To be continued and thanxs so far. Edited by Harm vb - 22 May 2021 at 14:07 |

I have another question - does it always appear at the same place in the frame or every time it is in a different location?
To me it seems as a problem with file writing/reading, but can also be a sensor problem. |

Broken electronics on the sensor, memory or a defective memory card.
Replace the memory card first - and retry. |

Yes, I'm doing tests with another memorycard in this camera and the suspected defective card in my other camera. As soon as the lines re-occur, I'll be back... |

Switched the memory card to my other camera and placed the other memory card in this camera.
As Mr. Murphy would confirm: nothing happened. All shots were without the nasty line. I go on ![]() |

Another week gone by. Nothing again.
Just a few shots with bad luck? I'll swap the memory cards to their original camera and see what will happen. Fingers crossed. |

Is 1 or 2 missed pictures out of 5000 reason enough to buy a new memory card and to bin a card that is not very old and costed about € 65?
I don't like binning good stuff. |

What sort of reader or cable you use to transfer image files into your computer?
Does those lines ever show when you review the photos on the camera? |

What if you use a different RAW converter?
I assume the RAW picture on the left is by a viewer, correct? That will be an embedded JPEG, not a RAW picture.
The A7 III has two memory cards, did you use redundant shooting? It is there for this kind of situations. |

I am guessing it is a memory error on the editing PC. Either the main memory or the video card memory. A lot of consumer video cards are not very stable. There may be a way to disable the GPU assistance in Lightroom. If that fixes it then it is definitely the video card.
