First, I want to apologize for being missing in the past months. My son had really hard time with his kindergarten this year and since we live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, we had to take care of him.
Now to Lisbon... Around 3 years ago, my brother told me that he checked and our family is eligible for getting a Portuguese citizenship. He took care of all the paperwork and all I had to do is to pay the fees and the commission to the lawyer. A round 1 month ago, my brother and I went to a week in Lisbon, in which we got our Portuguese ID card and passport. But this is not the end - this summer my family and I are moving to Lisbon for one year of sabbatical! I am not sure it will be easier for the kids, but we are very excited! Now few photos from my last visit. It was not a photography tour, and I had many "missions" (getting the paperwork done, visiting the university, finding a house). Also I found that after so many years in the desert, with open spaces, and I found it hard to take photo in the crowded and overwhelming city environment. So most of my photos are not a real representation of the city... Shay,
Congratulations on your EU dual citizenship, and what sound like an exciting sabbatical year ahead. How's your and your family's Portuguese??? It will be a huge contrast in so many ways, and I'd think the biggest adjustment will be for your kids. Thanks for the introductory glimpse of your new world for the coming year - looking forward to seeing LOTS more! |

Ah, Portuguese citizenship makes traveling through Europe so easy
![]() For a non-photography trip, you give some nice views of Lisbon. Did you see the Lisboa thread? |

Congrats, Shay, for becoming an EU member!
Lisbon is a fascinating city - you have to climb the Christo Rei (in your first image), take the #28 trolley to Prazeres and take your kids to the aquarium at the former EXPO area - and there are many more things to do during a sabbatical - when will it start? Learning Portuguese is not that easy (I am currently trying), but while living there for a year should make it possible. All the best and looking forward to the results of your photographic excursions! Edited by waldo_posth - 25 June 2022 at 18:31 |

Thank you, my friends!
Tal and I started to learn Portuguese, but as Harald said, it is not easy... But most of our professional interactions will be in English and you can manage in Lisbon with English so we don't worry too much about ourselves. With the kids we focus on English. They will go to international school which is in English and currently their English level is very low. But they learn fast... I hope they will manage - I believe that their adaptation will make the difference between a great experience and a disaster... EU passport is very useful for international traveling, not only within the EU countries. And it is always good to have a backup options in case things here are getting too crazy. Generally, the plan is to come back to Israel after one year. We have our jobs here, and actually they pay for this year and we are committed to come back after 12 months. But of course if there will be a good opportunity and life in Europe will be better for us than life in the Middle East, who knows... |

Congratulations on your EU citizenship, mine was stolen by the spivs that currently ru(i)n this country. I've visited Portugal but not any of its cities, I hope to remedy this in the next year or so.

Congratulations on your new citizenship! It's always good to have another passport ;)
To me, your images capture quite a bit of the spirit of this atlantic city, and of its various urban, geographical and historical layers already. Be sure to spend some time in Alfama with your camera if you wish to see some (remnants of) medieval urban contrast to the desert... PS. In the "Cities" threads the one for Lisboa is still surprisingly empty, as I just noticed... ;) Edited by Maurus - 26 June 2022 at 12:42 |

We are getting more and more excited toward the move, and getting more and more stressed to get everything ready... I will look if I have more photos to post on the Lisbon thread. |

Congrats and welcome Shay! "Caminho" is a fabulous shot, but I like the quiet scenery shots as well. Never been to Lisboa yet, but it's supposed to be a good place for a Dyxum meet
![]() I hope you will have aa good time with the family there. |
