I've wanted to try long exposures at the beach for a while, but I don't have the 77mm ND filters I'd need for my wide lenses. So I decided to try averaging multiple short exposures to simulate a single longer one.

The last one was the one the technique was most necessary for since it was still direct sunlight. It's 14 frames at F/16 and ISO-100.

Just in case anyone's interested on a tutorial covering exactly how I did it, I wrote up a blog post on it here.

These all look very enchanted. Great one can still see all the details on the rocks - especially in #1. The third looks different and also gives the series a little diversity. I like that. It also looks more natural while still with a special effect.

Thanks! Sometimes when I look at that last one, I really like it. Other times I look at it and I don't. Very hard to tell.

Here's another from the same trip, though long exposure (30s) for a different reason. It was taken during Nautical Twilight I believe.

I now have 2 ND400 filters one 77mm & one 72mm paid around $100 AUD each for good quality Hoya filters after buying some cheap no brand ones which were a waste of money. Here's some sample shots.

Just shy of 6 minutes. EXIF data reports 349 seconds to be precise. Since you used ISO 400 and I see fairly substantial grain, I am curious if you did not apply any post-processing NR or didn't use the in-camera NR at the time you took the photo. Clever angle to make sure the center would be included in the frame.

My favorite is the 2nd of the 5. The last is my second preference. All very cool. What are those things, anyway?
