Very nice pictures everyone. I learned allot just looking at the pictures and reading the comments.
Agree: "Drum of milk spilled upstream"... is too much sometimes. |

@Keith H
I have never seen such stunning night shots. I think Keith H's shot is amazing. Makes me feel very amateurish - am heading out tonight!! |

You are too kind. There is a tiny bit of zoom at the end of the exposure hence the light trails at the back. |

I am finding this thread impressive both for the shots and the relatively high proportion of "newbies" doing excellent work. - |

I love long exposure pics but as a newbie to them I am having dificulty taking them in daylight . I know it can be done but I can never get a slow enough shutter speed without it being over exposed , even at f22 . Is the only answer filters or am I overlooking something obvious ??

NDs are what you need, and most who are serious have two "grades" to get better control. AND they need to be good (more than likely expensive) ones than are made with digital compatibility. Or you could try pinhole photography by drilling a fine hole in a tight fitting lens cap. LOL. PS I didn't think there was that much light in Scotland! |

Apologies to Scotland. I have just remembered that I saw most of it through the bottoms of many empty glasses that had contained wee drams of single malts. They were drammed expensive too! |

Can't recommend any specific UK website, but you need to look for a top quality Kenko or Tiffen. Both manufacturers do ND's at various prices, but as I say go for the best and digital compatibility which usually means the same thing. |

Perhaps I should have read "Robbie's Drams Promotes Sensible Drinking of Whisky." before I got to Scotland! |

I just did a Google on "Kenko ND filters" and came up with heaps of links, such as this one.
