Hey guys looking for opinions/advice/real world experiences with telephoto lenses and E-Mount cameras. Currently I am shooting with the 6400 and the rii. I have the 100-400 with 1.4 tc which is awesome on both cameras. I have also been adapting the Tokina 300 f2.8 so I can obliterate the backgrounds on animal portraits wide open. The problem with this lens is that auto focus is ridiculously slow adapted. It wasn’t blazing fast when I had the a99 either to be honest. That being said anyone have experience with the Minolta 400 4.5 or the Minolta 300 f2.8. High speed or regular version adapted. I could always go the canon route with metabones or sigma adapter but the Minolta route would be cheaper. Thanks for replying if you have any real world user experiences.

Did you consider the Sigma 300/2.8? Though I couldn't easily find any information how it behaves with the MC-11.

I have the minolta 600f4G and sometimes use it on the a6300. The af is in my opinion fast enough and reminds me of the with the A77 mark I. I have some experience with the minolta 300 apo (not the high speed version), its af is slower and can be frustrating.

The mechanical 300f4, 400f4.5 and 600f4 can only be used with AF on the LA-EA4. This means only 15AF-points (most in the center). With the LA-EA3 you'll have to focus yourself.

To be able to use the MC-11 you'll need to buy Canon-mount lenses of course. I'm having the MC11 - but i still ought to buy some lenses. Maybe a good idea to start a thread about what works - or create a specific article/database for Adapters (LA-EA3,4,MC11, and chinese Canon and Nikon ones) and lens compatibility.

The Sony 300f2.8 works fine both with LA-EA3 and 4 (due to SSM i assume) - it's not a cheap lens (even 2nd hand).

regards

Ivo
