It was his first criminal record (first time criminal or first time caught?) and was given a 24 month conditional order (a little stronger than a slap on the wrist), whereby, if he commits another crime within the 2 year period, he will be retried for the theft of my gear, and sentenced on that basis.

Disgustingly low sentence. Bascially there is absolutely no consequence or penalty to him at all as long as he behalves like the rest of us - a civilised human being! - for the next 2 years.

They should have made him walk about the town for a month with an 'I am a convicted thief' sandwich board and put his photos in all the local papers and on his notice board at work (if he was in work)

Sorry..late to this thread but that ridiculous slap on the wrist has really p**sed me off!

Hello Moderator team,

once in a while there are posts about stolen photography gear. Now I was wondering if it wouldn't be an extremely useful feature (to add) which would:

1) allow victims to launch relevant data of stolen equipment in a Dyxum data base;

and

2) allow all other users to check in this data base whether serial numbers of equipment to be bought (used) from any source doesn't figure in the stolen equipment listing.

Just a thought. OTOH it may extrapolate what the site is intended for or even cause legal problems, for example, if by error (or intentionally) wrong information is launched.

Here is a long list of stolen lenses and other stuff (mostly Canon/Nikon, but also some Sony) from LensProToGo:
https://www.lensprotogo.com/serial-numbers-of-stolen-gear-from-half-million-dollar-rental-heist/
Although my friends are all sure that I am involved, I wasn't in MA for the past 1.5 years and I have nothing to do with it...

The following items were stolen from our rental car on the 26/7/16 at Brianza Nord Service Area on the A4 between Bergamo and Milan in Italy:

Sony A6000 - 3883882
Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS - 1851972
Sigma 30/1.4 DC DN - 51581924
Sigma 19/2.8 - 13263434
Samyang 8/2.8 - 809298882808

That will teach me to place all my eggs in one basket (Fiat Panda Boot)!!!
A thoroughly depressing experience. All the items were reported to the police in Verbania, Italy.

My almost new Sony A7RII camera + lens were swiftly removed from my tote whilst refueling on the A1 at Anagni, somewhat near Rome on 9 September 2016 in the early afternoon. We think the Esso station attendant was involved. Help me catch him, please.

Sony A7R II serial number: 3391945
Sony FE 55mm F1.8 ZA lens, haven't found the serial number yet.

They also took our Surface Pro 4, which is almost funny, since it has optical recognition and unless can be dismantled, is pretty much a brick.

Theft reported in Bernalda, IT.

So much for a fun vacation...thanks, Italy.

All,

For the UK members (I guess) and, especially, those in the South East/Kent specifically.

We have just had our house broken into and, amongst the items 'removed' were the following (serial numbers I have to find and I will update this as and when I locate them):

a99 V SLT body; no damage nor scuffs etc. to differentiate it
Sigma 24-70/2.8 HSM EX DG - again, clean and exceptional condition
Minolta 100-200/3.5 zoom; clean and tidy with no scuffs but no front cap.
3 x Sony batteries for the above
Sony Messenger bag - dark grey with silver grey interior

One discerning aspect of the a99; it comes with a Optech Dyxum printed strap; I know of only a handful of these in the UK and Europe so, if seen on an a99 for sale anywhere - it's mine!!

Clearly, these could be offered as a 'job lot': they were ready gift wrapped for the individual who took them as I was intending to use them in London the following day.

Any news or information will be gratefully received and passed on to the authorities. Hopefully we might find the erst of the items taken as well...

Thanks and best regards,

Neil.
My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

The strap may well be a good identifier. Will keep a lookout in UK and check the auctions that I go to, from now on. Meanwhile...keep your chin up

BTW, the strap will look like one these:
