@dschroed

Nice composition, but the quality of the moon is behind the capabilities of the 70-400G. My recommendation: 70-400G is best at f8, so use f8. Take the photo with 2 sec. self timer (MLU). If contrast AF does not work perfectly, use focus check LV and contrast AF in that mode.

Does this count as 'lunar'?

Sure does, elle. You might try a less centered composition next time to make it a little more dynamic.

I definitely plan on trying other compositions, and will probably end up dragging my husband out tonight to do so, lol. That was my first try at night photography, so I was just ecstatic I managed to get something in focus.

Another attempt:

Wanted to get another wide angle shot with the clouds and such, but the clouds were just not cooperating so I went for a shot of the moon instead.

From last night as I was leaving work. a77 w/70400G

DSC00771 by stiuskr, on Flickr

I bragged about this in another thread so it's time to put up. The very first shot taken with the 70400G and Sony 1.4x and it was near perfect (forgot to turn off SS so I think it could be sharper) coming from the a77 with the help of the focus magnify, the 055CXPRO3 and the BH55
approx. 50% crop

A while back with a850, 600, and kenko 1.4x.

I will be trying again sometime soon with stacked 1.4x and 2x converters, and my camera is off at the moment to have the AA filter removed. Also going to try the stacked converters with the a77, probably over the holidays :)
