Some M42-lenses mounted on a Pentax

And in German:

Shows some lenses with a short description in German

Also in German with "Documents and lenses from Meyer-Optik Görlitz (Goerlitz)". Two lens lists form 1966 and 1934 and two pricelists from 1962 and 1964.

Porters Camera in USA has the M42. Very inexpensive now on sale. Not as cheap as Gadget Infinity in China, but probably faster delivery.

Ahoy!

I think one the best resources for M42 lens data is on the Pentaxforums website.

how about making Dyxum the best lens data base for M42 lenses as well?
-or saying something funny now? -

love the Pentax fora and appreciate the Dyxum search engine, but would love it even more if lots of ancient lenses had their own seperate threads with more than just one or two samples that reveal the characteristics of each and every lens?
as there must be more people 'here' suffering from GAS -and beyond help ;-) - than anywhere on the planet?!

prime challenge is a great resource, but sometimes hard to find posts about particular lenses. and also like the Flickr groups, but not always easy to find samples of a particular Takumar, Primotar or whatever, because all FL are usually in the same group?
and vintage-camera-lenses.com is great, but ventilating -just- one person's opinion?

'in short'- (not looking for anything, but) it strikes me that there are relatively few sample pages, considering the piles of old glass that must be laying around 'here'?

when we won't be able to beat this list of lens samples. Why don't we focus in what we're good in: Minolta?

that would def. be so much cheaper!
but the truth is almost no one sticks to Minolta? only (!)
and since we didn't join them, I'm sure we can beat them?!!

but seriously, just asking for more samples pages?
would love that!!! can't imagine I w/b the only one?

Dyxum was conceived primarily as an A-mount resource, so I don't think a large percentage of the present forum members have piles of M42 lenses. (I don't have even one, although I have many A-mount lenses.)

Building, keeping and maintaining such a database is a huge undertaking. So we took a conscious decision to stick with A-mount and E-mount only. We have our hands full with that. Also duplicating Pentaxforums doesn't make a lot of sense.

We know many lenses can be adapted to E mount and several (but less) to A-mount so we created the possibility for members to start sample threads of other lenses and announce the creation of any new threads over here. We'll put it in the index so they will be easy to find by others. If you look at the current list it seems heritage Minolta lenses are most popular, but if people want to start more M42 threads that way we won't stop them (to the contrary). But the supply and demand needs to come from the Dyxum membership, and won't be driven from the moderator/administrator team.
Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

ButAngora, we have only three M42 lenses in the Index: Non-native lenses on E- and A-mount cameras as opposed to over two dozen MD-lenses.

Also, you only provided samples of one lens, why don't you add some samples? That is might inspire others

TY! of course we're (hopefully) all into A-mount and E-mount! old and new glass? (but at the mom I'm truely grateful I do own a number of 'modern' and M42 lenses, since the A99 became allergic to most of my AF -screw-driven- lenses, mostly Minolta, last september. as in: horror!!).
but also seeing an ever growing number of members becoming addicted to ancient lenses, that can all do different tricks and can't be compared to our 'normal' lenses. they have become so popular that more and more of those are being produced again (and come with a price tag that will make many shiver)!
did you see what the prime challenge is about?

I assume you know what I'm talking about? ;-)
didn't mean a DATABASE-database though! thought about how much work that would be! and therefore that w/b the last I would dare to ask for?!!! also didn't mean duplicating the Pentax fora! although I seriously believe we could outnumber them? ;-)

what I meant was posting an evergrowing list of sample pages and asking people to participate?
alphabetic would be great, but the Dyxum search engine is great too and will be able to find them!

I rest my case... only 3?! ;-) but there are more? which can be found when browsing through the M42 pages?
I provided samples of 2 lenses so far and planned to add more. BUT those would be MY samples? (dohdoh ;-)). only. I would love it if others would be willing to contribute as well to make it more profound?

for instance, 1 of my fav M42 lenses is the Primotar 135mm. mine came without a red V, but I would love to see samples of lenses that did to see if one can spot differences.
and there are obv. good copies and bad copies as well. I own a Jupiter 9 which I believe can't be the best copy ever?

even in the 'real' database -Dyxum is and should be so proud of-... as much as I like the reviews, for me the pics 'say it all'? posted there a couple of times only, because there are enough images in most cases. and we all know 'quality' can differ? once felt the urge to add some pics after someone had posted some really unsharp pics and said < As there are relatively few sample images for this lens, I will post some recent images. (.....) As a whole, image quality is not so bad with this zoom lens > about 1 of my beloved Minolta zooms. which can be very sharp. so I thought that was not fair?
well, I could post unsharp pics too?!
reviews/samples by one person c/b 'helpful', by more w/b information?

AND would love to see sample pages of all of the lenses I can't call my own?

Allergic? What happened? Are you just saying you prefer to use your M42 lenses?

I know many M42 lenses exist, and some dyxum members use them. I just don't get the impression that this community has a significant number of enthusiasts with lots of M42 lenses. Could be wrong, I guess.

did you see what the prime challenge is about?

No, what is it about? M42?

it started to scream!
when I turned it off. trying to turn the attached Minolta 100-400 past infinity. and every other screw-driven AF Minolta lens after that.
the only lens that is still useable to a certain extend is the old secret handshake aka Leica killer.
the AF motor for screw driven lenses is obv. the last thing you'll come across before the camera is completely demolished.
Sony Holland has given me the address of their spare parts dealer.
don't know if that particular part w/b available. only know it w/b a very pricey operation.

oh no! so miss my beloved M. 100 macro! and the 100-400! and the others?
I only have a few 'modern' lenses, mostly for crop. and the big (FF) Zeiss 16-35 TG! which works just fine?!!

the rest, incl. lensbabies, is all MF.
but then, the M42 lenses have other qualities. like producing amazing bokeh and/or overloads of bubbles. sought after n highly addictive!
THX to those and the wide-angle CZ, I'm still able to use my beloved A99! (but missing out on many other 'opportunities'. if I don't use the A580 instead?).

it's a highly contagious virus, known as G.A.S.!
Dyxum can be such a dangerous place! many victims already, many beyond help?!
check out any of the challenges? for instance? you'd be amazed!!
or Flickr groups for that matter? all cult material!
and hype?
'art lens' being the latest popular term...

or perhaps the most famous of all:

I have 3 M42 lenses plus several Tamron adaptall 2s which use an M42 adapter and quite a few T-mounts which do the same. Maybe I'll see if I have some suitable pics as samples, but I'm not sure what people are looking for in samples. Sharpness? Bokeh? Distortion? Veiling with sun in shot?
Some of the things I most want to know are best described in words.

Still not sure why I can't get a direct adaptall-to-alpha adapter or M42-alpha which operate the auto-aperture, but I've got used to manually stopping down now, or leave them stopped down and thank Sony for an EVF ...
Miranda F & Sensorex, Sony A58, Nex-6, Dynax 4, 5, 60, 500si/600si/700si/800si, various Sony & Minolta lenses, several Tamrons, lots of MF primes and *far* too many old film cameras . . .
