Just for the record, there should be no need to turn off IS if your chipped FL is less than your real FL - you just get partial cancellation of shake.

Example 1: chip FL = 50mm, lens FL = 100mm. You get half cancellation which is one stop benefit. ok!

Example 2: chip FL = 200mm, lens FL = 100mm. You get 2x compensation which means shake is as bad as without it. Turn off IS.

Example 3: chip FL = 400mm, lens FL = 135mm. shake is much worse than without it. Unusable with IS on.

If you had a 100mm chip setting and a 135mm lens, you should get a couple of stops improvement.

But I don't quite see why you'd bother with the chip unless you wanted the IS - the focus confirm isn't that useful if you set focus peaking, and (I think) the peaking works at all apertures if the light is bright enough.

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a M42 --> Sony Alpha adapter with multiple data chip.
In a little more than 2 weeks I received the adapter (the Netherlands).

On several forums I read that some adapters there might be an infinity focus problem.
Well, mine had also this problem, but the problem is quite easy to solve with one sheet of sandpaper (type 400).

It took me about 20 minutes to sand the adapter down enough.
During sanding I had a lenscap on the adapter to protect the contacts and the chip.

The adapter is solid build from brass (messing) and sanding was no problem at all.
After sanding I cleaned the adapter and wetted some teflonspray on the sanded brass.
This brass adapter feels a lot more stable than my cheap aluminium adapter without chip.

The adapter from mr. James Lao works very well with all my (old but fast and good) M42 lenses and infinity focus is no problem after sanding.

Switching between the programmed focal lengths is easy.
Just press shortly the "Lens Release Button" and the camera advances to the next programmed focal lens. You can see / check this on camera display.

The camera (Sony A65) remembers the last selected focal length so it's not neccessarry to select the focal length again as long as you don't change lens.

Focus confirm (the green square) works fine, and I guess that the in-camera image stabilisation works also, but I don't now how to test it to be sure...

Before ordering the adapter I had contact with mr. James Lao. He replied quickly to a question I had.

I'm very happy with my M42 --> Sony Alpha adapter !

Placed an order on the 15th of June for an M42-a/MAF Focus Confirm Adapter M42-L1, received shipping notification on the 25th of July, and received delivery notice and fetched item on the 28th of July. Suspect possible backorders to catch up on and summer time is adding to the more lengthy shipping time to Sweden? :)

Took some fiddling (I first screwed the lens in the wrong direction >_<) but finally figured out how to attach/connect adapter and M42 (Takumar 50/1.4) lens. That red dot on the adapter/lens side is tiiiiny alright!

And ohboy, (what I assume) is) the AF stuff is really.. noisy, 'til one gets things right. The camera can make a lot of noise as it powers down too, hm. However, one should keep in mind this Konica Minolta 7D is suffering from first frame issue (every now and then) and one of the reasons I plan to keep this lens as a permanent one.

I have no idea if I got things right in regards to settings otherwise, I simply like to click and go but this setup will force me to at least eye the taken photo every now and then ;) yet quite content with photos so far and will keep experimenting, but I think I will need an ND-filter.
