I'm very grateful to Jet for taking time out from a busy schedule last week to show me around parts of Gouda I had not seen before. If there's more than one person there's a meetup and, being a rather small affair I have coined 'Micro DM' as a label for it.
We had a pleasant afternoon, beginning with some delicious appelgebak with real whipped cream: (Phone shot) Jet has a photo of the two of us in the café, and I'm sure that will be here soon, but for the meantime here she is in front of an obligatory windmill in the city centre. Thanks, both!
First up: Tuin van het Willem Vroesenhuys | A7 III and FE 28mm F2 + Ultra Wide Converter A delightful feature of Holland towns and cities is the little hidden courtyard of houses facing in to a shared garden or space. I know a couple in Hoorn very well, and in Amsterdam the Begijnhof is a famous example. Here in Gouda we have the Willem Vroesenhuys. (Please correct me if I have got this wrong, Jet!) And next, Turfmarkt bench | A7 III, LA-EA3, and and Tamron SP 70-300mm USD The Turfmarkt I had seen before, where there are some grand houses including a rather nice Jugendstil house from 1905 (here, from an earlier visit). Continuing, the Turfsingel offered an interesting alignment of shapes and ships:
On the Turfsingel | A7 III, LA-EA3, and and Tamron SP 70-300mm USD And across town the Hollandse IJssel offers the prospect of a proper river and industrial activity today Hollandse IJssel | A7 III, LA-EA3, and and Tamron SP 70-300mm USD I'll finish my selection on Sunday. |

In my bookshelves somewhere you will find some old photobooks illustrating progress in industry and the economy in The Netherlands after the second world war: photos of ports, bridges, polders and industrial plant. You can imagine my delight at encountering the Croda Nederland plant in Gouda. I was also pleased to discover that Croda is a British company that has been around for nearly a century.
So just a few snaps then: (Four vertical frames, stitched.) All A7 III, LA-EA3 and Tamron SP 70-300mm USD |

Nice series Howard, some 6 years ago we had a small (but not micro ) meeting there, See here.
Quite different views from you this time, so plenty to go back for. Unfortunately I couldn't make it this time since I promised our daughter to help her with laying a parquet floor in her house that day (and the whole weekend). I especially like your B&W's of the industrial plant, nice compositions and conversions, but also the turmarkt bench is a good one. Looking forward to more |
