I see.
Actually, there were two moments in the day that we were out in the field. Early in the morning and around sunset. That didn't leave much room for other activities.
From Portree, you can do a boat trip to photograph puffins and see-eagles. I didn't even find time for this 2-3 hour trip.
But the whole trip was still worthwhile.

Hi Domien and Pieter,

These bring back some happy and not-so happy memories from a visit we made to Skye in, I think, 2009. The happy part is that you managed to see many of the 'must see' landscapes and views that are so abundant there - The Old Man of Storr; Elgol and the Black Mountains beyond etc. as well as the Neist Point Lighthouse. The sad part, on my side, is that we had almost 100% rain the whole 2 weeks were there and so your images serve as a reminder of what we actually missed rather than saw! I think you were blessed in a number of locations with some rather special light - I have nothing like your Elgol shots, though I think we stood at almost exactly the same spot to take those you show us; and the Old Man of Storr we did manage to get up to and around before the weather closed in so I can relate to that. But the Fairy Glen and the pools? Not a chance... I recall we had one walk to do which described us having to step over a small beck on our way to our destination; when we got there it was a raging torrent and about 2m across and in no way passable!

So, please keep posting as they are both an inspirational set and, perhaps, you never know, something of a persuasive set also with which to convince me that we should really try and revisit this rather stark but rewarding area again some time soon.

Thanks and best regards, Neil.

As perhaps the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone or Bryce Canyon are to you folks on the east side of the Atlantic, these places are to me. Absolute confirmation that I want to get to Scotland in the next year or two (tentatively scheduled for fall of 2021). What beauty and surreality (is that a word?) to this not so well-traveled American. The light, the landscape, the mood and your presentation of it -

Neil, in the 7 days we were there we had all kinds of weather, rain, sun, fog, cloudy, fully overcast and more. So going back doesn't have to be the same as your experience from 10 years ago. It's certainly worth it if you catch a few periods of nice weather.

September 17 started with a long walk and climb in the dark towards the Old Man of Storr. But we caught some good light there, not a spectacular sunrise, quite soft but still directional morning light which nicely brought out the lush greens as well as the rough texture of the rocks.

So I'll start out with 4 images from this morning adventure

p41: spot the hiker with the yellow jacket for a sense of scale of this magnificent rock formation

p42: Wide view with some lochs and the sea below (spot the little green tent of the hikers who spent the night there)

p43: Close up, just as the first weak sunrays were hitting the rocks

p44: Behind the lower rocks, staring the Old Man in the face

The rest of the day was filled with a tour around the island and ended at the fairy pools

p45: Somewhere along the way, sheep and mountains

p46: A fairy busy with drawing or writing at one of the pools

p47: Hidden pool and waterfall

p48: My obligatory experiment in B&W

45: A7 + FE70-300G

This mini-meet is generating some outstanding images of spectacular landscapes. A real treat for all of us to see them. P41 to P43 look amazing, and from others' comments you were blessed with some clear conditions and good light. The human scale makes it all the more impressive.

Excellent images from Scotland Pieter and Domien. Isle of Skye is on the ever increasing list of places I must go. I hope some day.

Thanks for all the nice comments, we had fun travelling and shooting there and it seems it shows

Day 18 started with another trip up the Quiraing but we waited there for ~20 minutes and the fog, wind and rain only became thicker so we went down to sea level and scouted a few places on the way back to Portree

p49: A cheesy (and wet) rock at Saffin beach

p50: Lichen (also at Saffin beach)

p51: Coast line (from Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls Viewpoint)

p52: Mealt Falls

p53: Rainy token of love

p54: We had about 15 min of a few patches of blue to catch the essence of Scotland (green fields with sheep)

p55: The coast line near Lealt Falls

p56: Back in Portree

49, 50: A7ii + Voigtländer 65/2 macro
51-55: A7 + FE24-70/4 CZ
56: A7ii + FE70-300G

Unfortunately the weather turned even more rainy later in the day, so no afternoon or evening shots were taken.
