Domien and I made a 10 day trip to Scotland, we visited Edinburgh, South-Queensferry, Isle of Skye (multiple places), Glencoe and Glasgow.
Main purpose was a 6 day landscape photography workshop on the Isle of Skye and the other places were great opportunities on the way up to and down from there. We'll create a little travelogue here to take you along, but as always we start DM threads with the mandatory group shot. p1: Taken in one of the mirrors standing in the garden of St Andrews Cathedral in Glasgow: ![]() A7ii + FE 24-70/4 CZ F.l.t.r: Domien (dopol), Pieter (pegelli) More to come ![]() |

We arrived at Newcastle and drove to Edinburgh immediately.
There was time for a long walk in great weather. I love Edinburgh architecture; it's a great town. I don't want to overdo it, so I'll restrict to 8 Edinburgh photos. #D1 a Building ![]() #D2 Train station ![]() #D3 Holyrood park ![]() #D4 Building activity ![]() #D5 University building ![]() #D6 In the neighborhood of the castle ![]() #D7 Dean Village ![]() #D8 cemetery with a great view of the castle ![]() Amazing light All A7Riii with 24105G Edited by Dopol - 24 September 2019 at 13:39 |

HI Domien,
Some lovely shots in here already - I'm especially taken by the inventive route taken to the stairways to the tenement buildings in #6 and the last shot with the combination of the light on the castle and the lamp and red door. This looks like a great start to the thread. Thanks and best regards, Neil. edit - Mac auto changing names.... Edited by owenn01 - 24 September 2019 at 22:20 |

So before arriving in Scotland we had to take the ferry from IJmuiden (near Amsterdam) to Newcastle. We took the Dyxum staff car (the same that went to Gothenburg last year) but put a big sticker with "LEFT" on the steering wheel to constantly remind us about driving in a country where they don't drive on the right side of the road

Excellent start Pieter! I wished I could have jumped on board instead of just waiving you off from the office window

I'm really looking forward to this set! I'm only slightly worried that we may have missed each other in Glasgow (I was up there on Wednesday 18th)… but I'm sure we will get to meet up soon!

Both of you have taken some beautiful images in beautiful light. Really it's hard not to find appealing and photogenic subject matter in these locations, but you've shown us a nice mix including wide views and interesting/quirky details.
Lots to like, and obviously lots more to look forward to. |

On our second day (saturday the 14th) we drove from Edinburgh to (South) Queensferry to see the famous "Firth of Forth bridge". It was a bit overcast, but fortunately on some occasions there was a tiny bit of filtered sunlight through some thinner cloud sections. Anyway, good light or bad light, this bridge that was built from 1882 to 1890 is an unforgettable landmark.
