Hi guys, a week ago I have bought Dynax 800SI over the internet as tested and fully operational by the words of the seller.
I was very excited to purchase this one reading the comments regarding features for the price about 40 eur. I receive camera well packed with xi lens 28-80. three days before film loading I was study manual for basic operations, and boom finally loaded a film and start shooting. It was a nice beggining to meet this camera. Until yesterday, I was on 27th frame and just want to check how DOF button work, so I pressed several times. After this, I have noticed darker viewfinder and camera is unable to AF. Green light blinks non-stop. What a dissapointment... Now looking on the internet to try to find possible solution. What I have find so far and what I am suspicious to is the in camera body aperture ring I guess that sits now on position on 4 o'clock and looking by the comments and pictures on camera body on the internet it should be upper on about 3 o'clock. Am I right? Also, I have visited one near by vintage camera seller and check with another lens. Same situation with my camera body, while my lens is ok with his dynax 500 body. Could you please help me with this one if possible? I have removed metal ring plate with hope to see something, but witout luck. All I can see there is red wheel on the left that seems to me return this ring in lower postion and do not know how to try to check this or eventually fix this issue? Thank you all in advance. |

If you use the DOF button, it may prevent AF from working since with these any F stop slower than F8 will usually make AF unusable.
I would re-mount the lens and re press the DOF button until the aperture re-opens and then verify if AF is back working Another thing to verify: On xi lenses, there is a way to pull on the zooming/focusing ring that disables AF. maybe you de-activated AF by accident by pressing/pulling on this ring. When you release this ring, the lens should be in AF mode again. Edited by michelb - 23 September 2022 at 01:35 |

Thank you, already press DOF button so many times, same done with the lens. Monut-unmonut.
Looking on the camera with the lens, I see only tiny hole on the lens, as I understand under normal operation it should be wide open. I even set release priority settings to shoot without AF to try to release something if it is stuck, but without success. Also, check is it in AF or manual mode, press the button on lens and see notification on the screen,I am not i manual focus mode looking by that. And yes, lens focus ring is released and in normal (AF) position. I will send pictures later of this ring inside camera body that I have doubts about position... |

From this description it look that the aperture mechanism is stuck. When mounted the lens aperture must be wide open. If it was after pressing the dof button, I would investigate if the button is locked. |

Sounds similar to this problem
https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/aperture-problems-with-800si_topic54919.html I also looked around the internet and found a report of someone suffering a similar problem with the older minolta 7000 camera. He describes how he fixed the problem in the opening post but some of the following comments were revealing and it could be that the aperture control ring on the camera just needs cleaning. https://groups.google.com/g/rec.photo.equipment.35mm/c/KBvNHVCi46A Edited by Hobgoblin - 24 September 2022 at 00:08 |

Hi, last night I have tryed easier solution from this formu topic you send me. Remove metal ring and remove aperture ring/iris inside camera body. It was tricky to restore iris ring inside at the same time in four sliding wheel but restored to original position finally. Viewfinder become brighter but with ocassional AF and I was not satisfied with that, so i leave it until morning. Now, about 30 min ago, I have looked again, detach and attach lens and looks better. AF also... It looks like I have restored it to "original" position. I am happy at this moment and waiting to develop film that I was shoot before this issue and hopefully continue shooting and learn more with this camera. |

Its an old camera so you have to expect that a little maintenance and cleaning will do it good. Old lubricant becomes thick and sticky and can cause all sorts of problems. Hope it works for you - 800si was nice camera |
