More likely I'll need a hernia truss.

I know the seller *CLAIMED* it was A-mount, but... does this lens even COME in an A-Mount? Sigma website says Nikon/Canon/Sigma...

Definitely yes, in the older version (which this is): http://www.sigmaphoto.com/discontinued-lens-chart.

Sweet, please keep us posted on how the pictures and your biceps work out Rory!

If it's listed in the dyxum lens database then there must ipso facto have been an A-mount version. All kudos to Mladen's infallible tour de force.

Just got it. Pictures to follow, though testing will be a while (family matters this week). Haven't tested it yet. Took some maneuvering to get the lens (and packing material) into the car.

First impression--Sigma lied about the weight!

Lens with hood assembly (hood is in two sections that bayonet together then onto lens: weight 15.1# 6.85kg

Lens with case and everything: 25.1# 11.39kg

The seller (shutterblade) packed this marvelously--used expanded foam pillowing to cradle it just so.

Picture of the lens, mounted on an a850. Next to the lens is a CZ24-70 for size comparison, along with a yardstick. The last two "segments" are the lens hoods. Serial number is 1000021.

It looks like the lens database needs updating. I'd say you got a really good deal at $1700

You wouldn't need to shoot the birds...you can just beat them with the lens. That is one big set up. I was ready to take a chance on it myself, but you beat me to it. I can't wait to see some shots!
To see is to enjoy. To see beyond is to rejoice.
