Wow, it needs a hood that's so long they built it with two separate bayonet-able sections? That in itself must be a record!

Aww, c'mon, at least one shot already!!

I had for awhile the APO 500mm f7.2, styled the same as the OP's 800mm, and it wasn't a good lens at all - I hope for us all the 800 isn't reminiscent of that one.

That thing is huge! Stay away from airports and government buildings Looking forward to your sample shots. What will you be using for a tripod and head?

Dang, that is a GoOoOoD deal. If I'd seen the auction, might not have gone so cheap
If it's as good as my old 500/4.5 EX - more accurate comaprison than the 7.2 - then you've got the deal of the year.

All I did was list it here as I always do when I see something I believe would be of great interest to a fellow Dyxumer. I posted the first link, would have bought it myself if I didn't already own something in that large size.

It was a BIN listing. Same price for whoever clicks the button first.

My apologies for getting to it first. I had insomnia, and decided to browse through Dyxum. Saw the message, thought about it for as long as I dared, then pulled the trigger.

It may be a good deal, but I just put a bid on proper support for this lens, and that's going to be expensive (see picture below).

Doesn't have to be expensive. I recently sold this Superball (BALLA) below for $250 - retails for much more. It would hold the 800mm easily. The tripod that it's on is an Induro A413, cost me $63 on Amazon one day. It's huge.

I use it with a Gimbal as well.

Most interesting thing so far for me is the serial number...100's21.

Assuming that Sigma would have kept a couple back for themselves that means that are at least 14-16 of these sold and out there....Given they would most likely have been bought by professional togs, or at least very serious amateurs, I wonder how many are still on the go?

This is the only one I have ever seen or heard of for sale.

Health to enjoy it Rory.
