Mike, Pelican in flight, who would have thought this is possible with a CAT. Apparently the AF on the Mino 500 makes it possible.
Great Pelican shots, so much detail! |

Nice squirrel, Matt. They take on different looks by region. Only 45 minutes from me there is one called a raccoon squirrel that we don't have here. Oddly, the ones we have in CHarleston resemble the ones in New Jersey.

Thanks, Paul. The AF does help. However, I have found it difficult to track the bird when flying by so quickly. The bird has to be in the center of the frame for the AF focus and the focus is still hit or miss. I do better with the AF Vectis 400. I try to set the focus range in advance when expecting a fly-by, which requires less adjustment for the AF. I've captured BIF using MF as well with the same technique, but success is even more limited. It's fun trying MF like in the old days when BIF was an accomplishment. |

Olympus OM 500mm f8. This was taken at dawn with a Fujifilm X-H2S at ISO 3200 and 1/640th second. Captured in raw, converted in DxO PhotoLab. Click for full size. This is one of my favorite mirror lenses, reliably giving good results.

Apologies for not following the forum rules... a kind member PM'd me and reminded me this is a Sony-centric forum. I beg pardon and will be careful not to repeat the mistake. |

I needed some inspiration from Mike and took the MINOLTA V REFLEX LENS 400mm 1:8, LA-VE2 and A7RM4 to the zoo to shoot some birds on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately with avian flue rampaging the nation most birds are shielded to avoid contamination. Managed some shots under a grey sky so ISO and exposure time not ideal (when the sun came out I was already gone, I had other things to do):
1: Cormorant and pelicans 2: Pelicans 3: Grey heron 4: Pelicans 5: Carefully groomed |
