1. Detail from the shot below.

2. From about 5 metres away. About that bokeh...

Here are a few fence studies with a new kid on my mirror block:

1 Going downhill

2 The old cemetery gate

3 The red window behind the fence

a7riv + Minolta RF Rokkor 250mm 1:5.6 (1979)

Spectacularly small, makes for very comfortable handling!

As a cemetery lurker, I like that second image, Leo. I need to give B&W more consideration when shooting cemetery images.

I've had good success with my 300mm lens but that Rokkor is in a class of its own.

Thanks Mike!
For your (wild)life shots colour is usually better but for after life bw is very suitable.

Today I tried the Minolta AF 500 Reflex with the Sony a7R IV. Focusing is definitely better than on my A99II. But I'm not entirely satisfied with the quality anyway.

Pictures look sharp. What is it about the quality you're not happy about?

Well, take a look at these two photos below. The first is taken with a Minolta 200 / 2.8, the second with a Reflex 500. Both are cropped to more or less the same frame
Both Sony A7r IV.

Well, on this scale all I can really see is a difference in contrast. Which is easy to process out. It appears the 500mm mirror image has more sharpness in the background (look at the light-post top right of the tower). Focusing issues, images at equivalent DOF?

Yes you are right. It is not the best test. The subject was too far away.
But that's all I had when I came back from a walk.
However, the photo from the Minolta 200 was much more cropped, and the effect is similar to the Minolta 500.
Today I will try to make a comparison using a tripod and the target will be some license plates;)

There's a lot of atmospheric haze in those samples .
That reduces contrast as well , though they would be equally effected as both shots are taken from the same spot .

A 500mm f8 versus a cropped 200mm f2.8 (or whatever)? You're still making an apple to oranges comparison!

That's my thought as well. The 500 f/8 is quite well regarded for its price and as a cat lens. The 200/2.8 is one of the finest Minolta made.
