I got involved through Dyxum when Howard posted about an Oxford photowalk. I attended, met Howard and ended up an 'Oxford Photographer'. The group has exhibited at Oxford Artweeks for several years, I'm a newcomer. This my first exhibition on a wall, last year's contribution was an online exhibition. As Howard notes I am a bit of an interloper, it takes me a good 30 minutes to get to Oxford. It's a very friendly group - if any other local Dyxumer wants to meet us the next meeting in a photowalk on Thursday evening - meet 7pm at the Martyrs' Memorial (DM for more details.)
The shot was what I could take, I was sat having coffee and this was the view I had. I rushed it a bit - not realising they would be there for more than a few seconds. I have been playing with Wix in the past few days so my part of the exhibition is now online here. Most of the pictures will be familiar to Dyxum regulars. |

I second that invitation to come along on Thursday evening!
![]() I should have mentioned that this year we were invited to join a 40th anniversary showcase for Oxfordshire Artweeks at John Lewis in the Westgate Centre. Phil has a link to his selection on his web site; I thought I had posted a set of mine here when I visited the USA a few years ago, but I can't find them on dyxum so perhaps I am mistaken. |

Last weekend we took my father in law to a museum for his 90th birthday.
Since he used to be a mechinal engineer, we felt the 'Museum for Engines and Grandmothers time' was an appropriate choise. The museum has an unsual but funny combination of some 275 old industrial and maritime engines at groundfloor, and a large collection of nostalgic items from 'grand-mothers time' upstairs. The benefit is that both men and women can enjoy themselves at the same time and place ![]() It started as as private collection but afterthe deatg of the original owner is now run by a couple of enthousiastic volunteers. #1 Their 'masterpice' is a worldwide unique one cilinder diesel engine, produced by Bolnes in Rotterdam in 1945. Meant to be used for a ship, but never was used for that in the end. It ended up in a university for study and learning. It's run evrey last Sunday of the month. ![]() To give a sence of scale: The flywheel at the right weighs 4300kg. The whole istallation is 6,5m high. #2 Starting up another one ![]() #3 Detail ![]() #4 Enthousiasm and interest ![]() #5 Used in a saw mill, still running ![]() #6 Oil cans ![]() #7 Some interesting vehicles too: Simca B-1200 (1950) ![]() #8 Heinkel (1959) ![]() #9 And upstairs some radios amongts others ![]() #10 And even an old photo studio ![]() ![]() TFL |

Museum dedicated to native Americans, Washington, D.C.
I personally found the architecture of the building quite visually appealing and fascinating so most of the pics are of the building itself. 1a. Exterior. ![]() 1b. I thought it deserved the B&W treatment. ![]() 2. Not enough room to backup. The front of the museum was very tight on space so I had to make do with 10mm best as I could. ![]() 3 Lookin' up. ![]() 4. Inside of the building. ![]() 5. The inside is a massive rotunda, about 5 floors high. Difficult to capture. ![]() 6. The architect has a sense of style. ![]() 7. A very poor capture of an interesting ceiling. ![]() 8. An exhibit with narrative about a folk story. ![]() 9. Visually striking architecture. ![]() 10. Leading to the top floor. ![]() 11. The cavernous interior. ![]() 12. Lookin' up - slightly different. ![]() 13. Portrait. ![]() 14. Landscape. ![]() 15. Exterior. ![]() Regards Sashi |
