In Museum Prinsenhof, Delft, Netherlands.

A painting of the Spanish fleet passing by Antwerp after signing the "Vrede van Munster" (Peace of Munster) in 1590, with that treaty the Republic of the Netherlands were officially separated from the Spanish King

You're absolutely right Michele, the year above the painting was the symbolic start of the Dutch revolt against Spain when they took Breda by a plot by smuggling in soldiers with the "turfschip" (=peatship)

You mean the "symbolic restart of the Dutch revolt against Spain. The battle at Heiligerlee in 1568 is considered the beginning of the Dutch Revolt. Making a nice round 80-years between it and the Vrede van Munster (Peace of Westphalia) in 1648.

Like the picture though.

Staying in Münsterland but going from Münster to the town of Vreden and the now defunct Hamaland museum - a sign in the museum:

The bulletholes in the wall of Museum Prinsenhof in Delft, inflicted by the gunshots that killed William of Orange on July 10th, 1584.

A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD

Originally the holes were much smaller but (until a little glass plate was mounted over the holes) lots of visitors put their fingers in the holes and loosened/pulled out many small fragments of the stone making the holes much bigger.

Pieter,

It is really fascinating that those bullet holes still exist after all this time. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Kelly, the killing of William of Orange was a real traumatic experience in that time and the place where it happened was one of the homes of the House of Orange so they "cherished" this place and kept it intact. It's only centuries later that it became a museum, and a very interesting one with very diverse artifacts as well as modern exhibitions

For instance there are still original ceiling paintings:

But at the time I visited also a modern art and photo exhibition of Jan Schoonhoven (paper artist) and Lothar Wolleh (photographer and friend of Jan Schoonhoven). Here's a combination of two of his works next to two photos of the artist in front of the Delft townhall

I found it a very interesting museum and very worthwhile to visit.

Those bullet holes reminded me that at Finnish National Museum, they have preserved a bullet hole in a door window that dates from 1918 and Finnish civil war:

(I think I've shown this already earlier and just now it would be impossible to take this photo as few weeks ago National Museum closed for couple years as they are renovating the building and building a new annex)

Thanks, Pieter!

That looks like a fascinating museum! Who, knows, maybe someday I will be lucky enough to visit it!

I have noticed that William of Orange still has an "Orange Army"!
I even noticed a small contingent of that army in Mexico this past weekend!

Regards,
Kelly

Map of Delft of Delft (2017), by Bouke de Vries (1960)
The title of this work is ambiguous. It refers to the city map of the city of Delft, but also to the famous earthware that is made there. The shape of this work of art is based on the 17th-century map of Delft by Dirck van Bleyswijck (1631-1681). By reusing fragments of Delftware, the artist emphasises the beauty of the material produced in the city of Delft.
