This year's Triennial, post Covid, is more modest than its predecessors, and perhaps lacks the big spectacle centrepieces but is still worth a visit.
I enjoyed the outing with my a7iv and SEL2470GM2. Here's a selection from the exhibits. 1. David Shrigley's 'Really Good' was originally intended to be set in Trafalgar Square London as an ironic commentary on Brexit immediately after that vote. The NGV has announced they have purchased it for their permanent collection. David Shrigley 'Really Good' sculpture, Triennial, NGV by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 2. A giant bronze sculpture of a traditional Aboriginal eel trap, set in the moat. Kim Wandin Eel Trap sculpture, NGV by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 3. Thomas Price bronze sculptures of ordinary people doing ordinary stuff. Thomas J Price sculptures, Federation Court, NGV by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 4. With visitors for scale. The Great Hall with bean bags and screened projections of visual artwork. Great Hall, NGV by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 7. Detail of artist Leonard French's stained glass ceiling, 1968 Leonard French glass ceiling, NGV by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 8. Nic Brunsdon's gigantic inflatable, 'breathing' sphere, 'Air' in the sculpture garden. I suppose the streaks under the air vents are an indication of the pollution in the atmosphere. Nic Brunsdon "Air", NGV Triennial by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 9. Installation of traditional Aboriginal woven grass matting that's used as a fish trap, made by women from Maningrida in the Northern Territory some 500km east of Darwin. Maningrida Fish Fence, NGV Triennial by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 10. A closer look. Maningrida Fish Fence weaving, NGV Triennial by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 11. Li Lihong's ceramic commentary on MacDonalds setting up in China, with the Imperial 5 clawed dragon decorating the golden arches. Li Lihong MacDonald's logo, NGV Triennial by Joe Lewit, on Flickr 12. Some of Raja Gemini's out there couture. Raja Gemini Couture, NGV Triennial by Joe Lewit, on Flickr More to follow. Edited by Jozioau - 30 March 2024 at 08:54 |

You put your tools to spectacular use again Joe. For those of us on the “other side” of the planet it is like being there. And what a feast for the eyes with so much diversity.
The Thomas Price sculptures are my picks. TFS |

Thanks for the good reportage, a close up after a wide shot, excellent, especially for something like "Yi I-Lann woven tikar", Ashley Jameson Eriksmoen 'Fell', etc.

Impressive reportage Joe, and a lot of well captured diversity. Hard to pick a favourite (the total is more than the sum of the parts) but for me # 18 stands out
